The Nemesis
Megatron stood on the bridge of his warship, supervising the goings on of the ship and everyone aboard it. It was early afternoon in Earth time and so far everything had been running smoothly that day.
'And it should continue to do so, if anyone ruins my plans they will pay with their lives,'
"Lord Megatron"
The silver warlord turned to see one of his lieutenants, Shockwave, approach and bow to his master. He smiled at his Head Scientist, being as the mech was one of few who managed to remain in his good graces and off of his bad side. "Ah, Shockwave, what news do you bring?"
Shockwave stood to his full height and went to a nearby monitor to bring up an image of a map of Earth and zoomed in on a specific region. "Our scanners have detected raw energon in this sector,"
Another mech, a Seeker, saw what they were discussing and sidled up to them. "In what is known as the 'Yucatan Peninsula' by the humans,"
The two mechs didn't need to look up to see who the screechy voice was coming from but did anyway and saw that it was Starscream, Megatron's other lieutenant, who was looking at them smugly.
Megatron groaned inwardly; his two lieutenants were always trying to one-up each other and it didn't take a genius to figure out that this was what Starscream was doing now, trying to appear smarter than Shockwave by displaying his knowledge of Earth.
Instead of being impressed, Megatron leaned towards the shorter mech intimidatingly—pleased when it made the smug little smirk disappear and the Seeker to flinch away—and sneered. "Well, Starscream, since you seem to know so much about the area… get a mining troop together and GO DOWN THERE AND GET THE ENERGON!"
Starscream flinched further away from the warlord and tried to regain his composure once he was mostly out of striking distance. "Y-yes, my liege, of course,"
Starscream turned on his heel and walked away, his forced smile he had pasted on for Megatron fell into a scowl as he walked away. 'I used to be the one calling the shots around here until he came back from the "dead" and that purple Cyclops came back from who the frag knows where. Now I'm treated like just another grunt,'
He came to the hanger where his Seeker troops stayed and smiled to himself. 'At least this 'grunt' with his own Seeker armada,' He reminded himself.
After gathering the needed miner Vehicons and a few Seekers to act as guards for the miners, Starscream ground bridged with his mechs down to Earth to begin mining.

Meanwhile, at the Autobot base
Ratchet ran a systems check of the computer they had taken from the Harbinger to see if it would work for them in their new base, being as their old one was recently destroyed by the Decepticons.
Luckily they got the ground bridge and everything else working, he just needed to see if the long range energy scanners were working so they could locate energon.
As he ran a test run of the system he said a quick prayer to himself. 'Please, Primus, let this work. We are living off of scraps as it is. I don't know how long we would be able to keep this up,'
As luck would have it, as soon as he said that, a blip appeared on the screen. Ratchet checked the computer to make sure it was working properly and then reset his optics to make sure those were working properly. There was no mistaking what that little blip meant.
"Energon…"
He turned to look at the other occupants of the room. "Optimus, I'm picking up energon!"
Everyone in the base froze as Optimus Prime went over to Ratchet, no one daring to get their hopes up in case it was all a fluke.
Optimus, however, kept his voice calm and level as he asked "Where is it located, Ratchet?"
Ratchet zoomed in on the blip until they were able to see where its coordinates landed. "The Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico,"
The Prime stared at the blip for a moment, even the walls seemed to be in suspense at this point, until he turned to his fellow Autobots. "Autobots, prepare to depart!"
The humans all crowded along the guard rail that ran around the platform they were on while the Autobots gathered in front of the ground bridge in a staggered formation with Optimus in front, the newly arrived Ultra Magnus behind him to his right and Arcee behind him to his left followed by Bumblebee and Smokescreen while Bulkhead and Wheeljack brought up the rear.
As the swirling green vortex of the ground bridge opened, Optimus held his servo above his helm in a "get ready" signal before waving it forward. "Autobots, roll out!"
At that cue, everyone transformed into vehicle mode and drove out of the base.
Unseen by the departing Autobots however, one of the humans—an Asian girl with pink highlights in her hair—slid down the hand rail on the stairs leading to ground level and made a break for the portal as soon as her feet touched the ground.
One of the other humans, Jack, saw the girl go and tried to call her back. "Miko, get back here!"
Miko, however, ignored him and sprinted through the portal, unseen by Ratchet who was watching the monitors to make sure the others made it through.
Jack let out an exasperated sigh as he ran down the stairs after her, taking them two at a time.
Raf looked up from his laptop and saw that he was about to be left alone in the base with Ratchet, who will no doubt be on the war path when he realizes Miko had snuck past him… again. "Jack…"
Jack looked back at the younger boy and held up his hands as he ran into the ground bridge. "Wait here, Raf, I'll get her,"
Ratchet heard him and turned around to see what was going on. "Get whom?" he saw that Miko had run into the ground bridge and Jack running in after her.
"Hey, get back…" he instinctively reached forward but his other servo had been on the lever to close the ground bridge behind the others. When he leaned forward he accidently pulled the lever down, which started the shutdown sequence for the ground bridge.
"… here," Ratchet looked down and saw what he had done and looked at the ground bridge; or rather, the two teens still running through it. "MIKO! JACK!"
Both of them looked up and saw that the ground bridge was closing around them. Seeing that they were closer to the side that the others had left through than they were to the side that the base was on; Jack grabbed Miko by the hand and pulled her in the direction the others had gone.
"Miko, move!"
Ratchet ran to the ground bride to go in after the two but the opening was already too small for him to fit through and shrinking rapidly. He could see the two teens almost to the end when the end of the tunnel on their side closed in his face. "NO!"
He took a step back as Raf ran up to stand next to him. "Please, Primus, let those two make it through on the other side,"
Raf looked up at Ratchet worriedly. "Ratchet, what would happen to them if the ground bridge closed while they were still inside?"
Ratchet stared at the wall behind the ground bridge generator for a moment before looking down at Raf. "Believe me, Rafael…" he looked up at the monitor that showed the other Autobots' life signals and the location they bridged to. "…you don't want to know,"
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Jack ran as fast as he could, pulling Miko along behind him, until they leapt through the rapidly shrinking opening like two tigers jumping through a hoop at a circus.
Miko gasped as the edges of the portal brushed her ankle but pulled it closer to her before the ground bridge closed completely as they fell to the ground on the other side, scraping themselves on the dirt but safe.
After a moment of realizing where they were, Jack grabbed Miko and pulled her behind some rocks; he knew the Autobots had come there for energon and were nearby but there was always a chance that the same was true for the Decepticons.
After making sure the coast was clear, Jack let go of Miko and glared at the girl "What were you thinking?"
"Yeah, what were you thinking?"
Both teens jumped and looked up to see Arcee looking down at them with a "you are in SO much trouble" look.
Jack had the decency to look ashamed that they had slipped through the ground bridge yet again.
Miko, on the other hand, just smiled sheepishly and tried to play innocent, like she came through the ground bridge on accident. "Um… hi,"
The others came up behind Arcee to see what she was looking at and Bulkhead groaned when he saw his charge hiding behind the rocks. "Miko…"
Optimus raised his digit to his comm. link and called the base. :Ratchet reopen the ground bridge.:
Ratchet's voice came on the comm. link almost as soon as Optimus finished talking :Optimus…:
Ultra Magnus raised his digit to his own comm. link. :Doctor, if you are about to inform us about the two native life forms that followed us through the ground bridge I would like to inform you that there is no need for that. We are already aware.:
They could hear Ratchet's sigh of relief through the comm. lines. :Thank Primus, they made it through. For a moment there I was worried they were trapped midway.:
Miko was able to hear this part since they weren't talking on the internal comm. links. "Ah, he does care,"
If Ratchet heard her he made no mention of it. :I am reopening the ground bridge now:

The Decepticon mining site
The Decepticons had managed to find the box canyon where the energon was located. Once they broke ground, the miners dug the dirt and rock out of the way as quickly and efficiently as possible to get to the energon beneath while the Seeker troopers stood guard in case any Autobots showed up.
Once they had dug fairly deep, however, some strange substance rose to the surface like oil droplets floating in water until a spring of the multi-colored liquid flowed at their pedes.
One of the miners called Starscream over. "Commander Starscream,"
Out of habit, Starscream started to say "It's L…" He stopped himself. 'Oh, right, I am not the Lord of the Decepticons anymore,'
The Second in Command stood tall and stomped over to see what the fuss was about; trying to get the intimidating, ground-shaking strides that Megatron was able to achieve without any effort due to his size but the only effect it had for Starscream was making him look like he was on the verge of a tantrum.
"Well, what is it?" he looked down at the pool of polychromatic liquid with distaste; no one could figure out what it was but they have been finding more and more of it lately at their mining operations.
Another miner held up an energy detector to scan the substance. "It's not energon but the energy reading coming from that stuff is surprisingly high… and it's stable,"
Starscream looked at the scanner then back at the mystery substance; if they could harness the energy from this stuff they would be able to double their energon efficiency if not triple it.
Thing is, Starscream had no idea what this stuff was let alone how to use it and there was no way in the Pit or the Well he was going to give it to Shockwave to give his rival yet another reason to further his position as Megatron's favorite.
Starscream snarled and waved his servo dismissively. "Like you said, it's not energon… probably a by-product of energon mixing with this planet's ores or something like that… therefore, not what we came for,"
He looked at all of the miners that were still digging. "Just work around it, Lord Megatron wants all of the energon in this area as soon as possible,"
The two miners looked at each other before joining their brethren in digging for the energon, careful not to disturb the mystery substance too much in case it did prove hazardous.

Meanwhile, in Earth's orbit
"DRAGOWING!" an effeminate voice bellowed through the headquarters of the Dragozaur armada.
Dragowing rushed into the room as fast as his giant red bat wings could carry him at the sound of his name. "Yes, Your Eminence, how may I serve you today?"
A pair of large glowing green eyes shone from the darkness and glared at him as their owner—the cunning and ruthless ruler of the Dragozaurs, Diamond Ryugu—addressed him again. "Another source of Life Force has been unearthed on the planet, GET DOWN THERE AND BRING IT TO ME!"
The bat-like Dragozaur backpedaled anxiously before collecting himself and bowing repetitively to his leader. "O-of course Your Majesty, I assure you that Life Force is as good as yours,"
He turned to leave the chamber as quickly as possible.
"Oh, Dragowing…"
Dragowing froze; the tone Diamond Ryugu used just then was one laced with false sweetness but was otherwise full of malice. He stiffly turned around to face her. "Y-Yes, Your Eminence?"
The glowing green eyes narrowed at him as their owner growled before saying. "My patience wears thin with your constant failures. I am giving you one last chance… if I were you I would not return here empty handed yet again,"
He started to promise he wouldn't but was cut off as his shadow-dwelling mistress raised her voice.
"SO COME BACK HERE WITH THE LIFE FORCE OR DON'T COME BACK AT ALL!" Her bellow was punctuated with a burst of blue-hot fire that spewed out of her mouth at Dragowing.
Dragowing fluttered away to dodge the fire and hovered back into his original position once it cleared. "O-of course, Your Eminence, I understand,"
He turned and started to go to collect his Dragozaur troops. On his way out, he passed Dark Dragon who was lingering just outside of Diamond Ryugu's chamber.
The Dark wizard chuckled to himself before saying "So long, Dragowing. It will be awful quiet around here when you're gone,"
Dragowing whirled around "You think you are so clever just because one of your plans worked for a short while but need I remind you that when it comes down to it you're just a smug d…"
"DRAGOWING! WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!"
Dragowing jumped at the sound of Diamond Ryugu's angry shout and frantically scrambled for the exit, momentarily forgetting which way the exit was in his panic and crashing into the wall on his way out. "J-just leaving, Your Eminence,"
He flew down the corridors to the chamber where his Dragozaurs waited for him. As he flew, Dragowing thought darkly about how his life had taken such a horrible turn. 'I used to be Her Eminence's right-winged man, and damned proud to be, before that he-witch came around,'
Dragowing sighed to himself as he thought of how things were in the beginning. 'Those were the days…'
Dragowing found his Dragozaur troops lounging about their cavern chamber complaining about how hungry they were, as usual.
He flew into the chamber and shouted as he kicked his legs and swung his fists. "All of you! Get up now! Her Eminence has commanded us to go to Earth and collect Life Force,"
He straightened up and pointed at them. "This time she also decreed that we are not to return empty handed so we will not leave that planet until we have what her Eminence asks of us. Do I make myself clear?"
One of the Dragozaurs looked up at him. "Hey, wait, I heard her say that you couldn't come back if you were empty handed. Why do we have to stay too?"
Dragowing put his fists on his hips as he glared at the Dragozaur. "Oh, eavesdropping, were we?" he flew closer so that he was right in the Dragozaur's face. "Well, let me tell you something, mister. If I can't come back, you can't either. Now GO!"
He pointed towards the exit and the Dragozaurs teleported out of the base to fall from Earth's orbit in the form of meteors.

Meanwhile, on Earth
Two young teens raced down the street, one on a bike and the other roller skating alongside, as the two tried to pull ahead of the other.
"Last one to the Dinotarium is Dragozaur chow!" the girl with the roller skates called over her shoulder as she leaned forward to pick up speed.
The boy on the bike also leaned forward as he pedaled faster. "Sorry Rena, but I'm definitely going to win this one!"
Rena laughed as they turned a corner. "In your dreams, Kaito!"
Kaito and Rena raced at full speed until their favorite place in town came into view.
The Dinotarium, it was the largest museum in the world dedicated entirely to Dinosaurs. Even the building was made with dinosaurs in mind with the roof molded to look like a T-Rex head.
Kaito cheered as he pulled up to the sidewalk outside the Dinotarium "Whoo hoo! I win!"
Kaito couldn't help but do a little victory dance as he hopped off of his bike and pushed it into the bike rack; even though he and Rena race each other a lot she usually won somehow so the boy couldn't help but feel proud of himself.
Unfortunately, he didn't notice Rena taking off her skates more hurriedly than necessary until she was running up the steps, slipping on her shoes as she ran. "Hey, Kaito, we said first one to the Dinotarium wins. Technically we are outside it, not at it!"
Kaito looked up from hanging his helmet on the handlebars of his bike and realized that he had in fact been celebrating prematurely as Rena was half way up the stairs. "What? Hey, wait up!"
The two friends ran up the steps and through the double doors leading into the lobby of the museum. Rena threw up her arms triumphantly. "And the reigning champ is…"
Kaito slowed to a stop behind her and scowled at Rena as she packed her skates into her bag. "That doesn't count,"
"My, what is all the commotion about?" The two turned to see the Dinotarium's curator, Naomi, come out of her office with her arms full of dark blue binders.
"Oh, hi Naomi," Kaito waved while Rena removed her elbow and knee pads, which she belatedly realized she was still wearing. "How are you?"
The Englishwoman smiled at the two kids. "Fine, thanks, and what is it you two are so excited about today?"
Rena shrugged as she put her elbow and knee pads in her bag next to her skates. "Oh, the usual,"
Kaito saw how many binders Naomi was holding. "Need any help with those?"
The curator shook her head. "No, just dropping these off at Dr. Abbot's office. Thank you though," she turned to carry her work load to the office across the hall from hers.
Kaito looked around to see if anyone was around before whispering to Rena. "C'mon, let's go see how Tyranno and the others are doing,"
Rena grinned and trotted ahead of him. "Hurry up, slowpoke, or do you want me to beat you there too,"
Kaito fast-walked after her, knowing they weren't actually supposed to run in museums in general. "You did not,"
Rena laughed and called back as she opened the double doors leading into the exhibit. "Did too,"
Kaito caught the door before it could swing closed on him. "Did not,"
"Did too,"
"Did not"
The two stopped their arguing when a third voice interrupted them. "What's the matter? Why are you two fighting?"
Kaito and Rena turned to look at the one that asked that, the Triceratops fossil in the display on their right.
Unknown to everyone else in town, if not the world, most of the fossils in the Dinotarium weren't just a bunch of long dead bones.
They were actually the Dino Knights, protectors of the Earth. They merely disguised themselves as ordinary fossils while they recovered from their battles with the Dragozaurs who sought to drain the planet of its Life Force.
Kaito smiled at him. "Oh no, we're not fighting, Tricera,"
Rena slapped Kaito on the shoulder. "Yeah, Kaito just doesn't want to admit he got beat by a girl!"
Kaito rubbed his shoulder as he looked at Rena. "More like Rena decided to move the finish line and not tell me until I was putting up my bike,"
Dino Ptera craned her neck so she was looking down at them with one eye, or rather eye socket, and said teasingly. "Oh, you guys were racing? As fast as you two were booking it I thought you were being chased by Dragozaurs,"
Dino Brachio craned his neck around, bones grating together as he did so, to look at Ptera. "If that were true, Ptera, then we would be able to sense the Dragozaurs nearby,"
Tyranno chuckled softly. "Well, I'm glad that's not the case," he looked down at and Kaito. "Don't worry, Kaito, I'm sure you'll win next time,"
Kaito smiled back, Tyranno has always been like a big brother figure to him. "Thanks Tyranno,"
Suddenly, Tyranno's eyes flashed and he tilted his head like he was listening for something.
Kaito noticed the change in mood and looked up at the Tyrannosaurus fossil with concern. "What is it, Tyranno?"
Tyranno looked off to the side. "I sense something…"
Brachio raised his head like he were trying to catch a scent in the air. "I sense it too. I'm not entirely sure what it is but I do know it isn't a natural phenomenon,"
Mammoth tilted his head, rocking his tusks from side to side. "Whatever it is, it's been happening a lot lately,"
Sabre perked up. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go check it out,"
Stego snorted "Didn't anyone tell you about how curiosity killed the cat?"
Sabre looked at the Stegosaurus Dino Knight and grinned "Yeah, but satisfaction brought it back. That's how we get nine lives!"
Stego scoffed and looked away. "Whatever,"
"Do you need me to close the exhibit so you can leave?" They turned to see Naomi standing in the doorway. After the recent Supersaurus incident, they decided to let Naomi in on the secret about the Dino Knights.
Aside from the brief fainting spell that resulted from the initial shock, Naomi took the news quite well.
Now, instead of constantly trying to convince Dr. Abbot that the fossils were able to get up and walk away on their own accord, she covered for them when they sneak out to deal with Dragozaur trouble.
Kaito looked at Naomi as she walked up to them. "You sure it's okay to close this early?"
Rena looked at him and then also at Naomi. "Yeah, we don't want you to get in trouble with Dr. Abbot.
Naomi smiled "Actually, Dr. Abbot went home with the flu earlier so I'm here by myself. Before he left he said if it gets to be too much for one person to handle then it would be alright for me to close early,"
"In that case…" Tyranno cracked his neck and looked at the others. "Everyone power up, we're going to the Yucatan Peninsula!"
Kaito, Rena and Naomi watched as all seven fossils glowed with Life Force as the Dino Knights powered up.
When they were done Dino Ptera was a green-and red Pterodactyl with red eyes, Dino Mammoth was a purple-and-yellow mammoth with green eyes, Dino Brachio was a yellow-and-blue Brachiosaurus with blue eyes, Dino Stego was a blue-and-green Stegosaurus with red eyes, Dino Tricera was a blue-and-gray Triceratops with red eyes, Dino Sabre was a red-and-green Smilodon with green eyes and Tyranno was a red-and-white Tyrannosaurus Rex with green eyes.
Everyone moved out of their positions in the display, Tyranno and the others stepping down from their platforms while Ptera fluttered down to perch on the edge of Brachio and Mammoth's Platform.
Tyranno looked at Kaito and Rena before he lowered his head to the ground next to them. "Climb on, you two,"
"Alright!" Rena jumped for joy before climbing up onto Tyranno's back.
Kaito was about to climb up behind her but he noticed Naomi standing off to the side, looking up at the Dino Knights like she missed them already. After thinking for a moment, he asked her. "Did you want to come with us, Naomi?"
Naomi looked surprised by the offer and by how Sabre bounced up to her and said "Yeah, come with us!"
Naomi scratched Sabre behind the ears. "That sounds wonderful, but I need to lock up after you all leave and…"
Dino Sabre wasn't easily deterred as he looked at her with big green "puppy eyes". "Please?"
Naomi thought for a moment and smiled. "Alright, if it means that much to you, just let me lock up first,"
"SWEET!"
Naomi went about locking the doors on her way out of the Dinotarium to make it look like she was just closing up for the day while the Dino Knights teleported out of the exhibit to wait for her behind the building.
When Naomi came around the side of the building they saw she had forgone her white lab coat and was wearing the purple T-shirt and cargo shorts she had been wearing underneath and was pulling a small back pack on as she walked.
Rena was immediately curious. "What's in the bag?"
Naomi explained why she had the back pack as she pulled her hair out from under it. "First aid kit and other such essentials, you never know what might happen while we're there,"
"Good thinking, Naomi," Tyranno crouched down so Naomi could climb up behind Kaito and Rena.
Naomi, however, hesitated. "Um, you sure you'll be able to carry all three of us the whole way, Tyranno?"
Tyranno feigned hurt. "What? You don't think I'm strong enough, Naomi?"
Naomi thought she actually offended him and tried to apologize. "Oh no, I just don't want to slow you down is all,"
Tyranno smiled "I know, I'm just teasing,"
Naomi felt foolish and smiled apologetically. "Oh,"
After everyone was situated the Dino Knights took off running at a speed that rendered everything around them into a shapeless blur as it sped past them.
A few minutes after they left Brachio announced "We just passed the Mexican border; we should be there shortly,"
"Yucatan Peninsula, here we come!" Sabre shouted jovially as they picked up the pace to reach their destination sooner, completely unaware of what awaited them there.
