The Melody of the Sea

I stand on the rocky cliff, overlooking the sea.

All I can see for miles is water.

It's like standing at the edge of the world.

I hear the sweet, clear notes of a flute pour into the air.

The notes are loosely connected, strung together with an invisible string, but they still have a flowing movement, floating freely through the air.

The notes form a distinct melody.

The music prickles my skin like raindrops slowly sliding down a window.

I think it must be the most beautiful thing ever to reach the ears of humans.

It is so majestic, so sad, so sweet.

The music tells a tale.

My eyes soften with the wetness of tears.

As the notes float into the air, they seem to echo off the surface of the water, magnifying the sound.

The music carries out to the sea, where the waves churn and the current seems to flow a little faster.

A clear high note penetrates the air and then slowly trickles down low, then back up a little ways, then back down until it finally settles on the first note of the song.

The phrase is played again, wrapping around the melody in a circle.

The wind picks up and blows my hair.

It seems to carry the same melody.

I hear the song again only now an entire orchestra is painting the picture.

The waves crash together like cymbals.

They swell up high like the music and then plunge back down into the ocean.

A dark shape moves under the surface of the water.

The large form swims all around, as if trying to detect the source of the music.

A torrent of water begins to swirl, a massive whirlpool of salty sea.

The water slowly pulls towards the sky, creating a tornado of brine.

The wind keeps roaring, carrying the melody of the sea, a low note slowly climbing to the top of a peak.

I'm filled with awe as the mass of swirling water raises towards the darkening clouds.

A flash of lightning and suddenly the water-tornado explodes as a triumphant note rings for miles around.

There in the sky is the sea beast, the beautiful guardian of the ocean, called by the enchanting melody of the sea.
