Camaraderie
By Kimmy

Summary: A short drabble relating the breakfast habits of the Marauders.

Notes: I...was bored. I've been yearning to write a little piece on the bond that the Marauders share...and well - finally got down to it. It's not as deep as I wanted it to be, but I wanted this to be short and sweet, and allow the readers to er, how do you say? Fill in the blanks of their friendship, maybe? Well, enjoy! Happy New Year, all!

----

Headboy though he was, there were some things James Potter would never figure out.

"Moony!"

"What?"

"Don't what me! You just stole my toast!"

Like why Remus and Sirius insist on bickering over the same thing every day over breakfast.

"And?"

"Moony, you don't just steal a man's toast."

"Padfoot, there's a plate of toast right in front of you."

Or why they never make any effort to change their routine.

"I don't want that toast, I want the toast that you stole!"

"Oh, you mean the one in my mouth?"

"Moony, you really don't want to know what I'll do - !"

"Dammit, Padfoot, here!" Whack.

Or why Peter always, without fail, manages to piss Sirius off.

"Wormtail. Did you just whack me with a piece of toast?"

"Er. Hehe. Sorry?"

"Try again."

"I sincerely apologize, Padfoot?"

"Try getting on your hands and feet and groveling."

"Why does Peter always end up groveling every morning, Sirius?"

Or why Lily always has to get involved.

"Because he always whacks me over the head with a different breakfast item every morning!"

"So you don't want Peter whacking you over the head with breakfast items?"

"Correct."

"Alright then." Splash.

Or why Sirius almost always ends up with some kind of stain on his uniform.

"Argh!"

"Is there something wrong?"

"Prongs, control your woman!"

Or how they always manage to rope James in. Somehow.

"I've never been able to control her, Padfoot."

"Damn straight!"

"Oh, shut it, Evans."

"Padfoot, don't tell my girlfriend to shut it!"

"Oh, shut it, Prongs."

But, James thinks, as he chucks a muffin at his best friend's head, it doesn't matter. There will always be things he can't figure out.

And as long as it stays this way...As long as Remus and Sirius continue to bicker over toast; as long as Peter continues to chuck breakfast items at Sirius' head; as long as Lily continues to mock Sirius mercilessly...

As long as they remain happy, James won't care.

"Why do people keep chucking breakfast items at my head!"

A slow grin spreads across James' face.
