Aspenwhisker stood at the edge of the gorge that separated WindClan and RiverClan, her dark green eyes gazing thoughtfully into the frothy, white-tipped waters below her. The words of her Clanmates ran through her mind, stopping only to taunt her.
Idiot she-cat...
So stupid...
Can't even catch a rabbit, for StarClan's sake! How is she WindClan!?
Aspenwhisker was sick if it. She was sick and tired of being underestimated, of being called names, of being WindClan.
Sometimes she wondered if she didn't fit in because half of her had blood that was meant for cats who caught fish and swam, instead of catching rabbits and running.
After several nights of little to no sleep, Aspenwhisker had decided that the best thing to do would be to move Clans.
Sure, she would have to learn a few things- being raised in WindClan meant that she had never properly learned how to swim- but she knew that RiverClan would be the best fit for her. And wasn't that what life was about- living where you're best suited, feeling loved and important?
Grass rustled and Aspenwhisker turned her head towards the noise, ears pricked and the start of a growl rumbling softly in her chest. She sighed in relief when she realized that it was only the wind, and laughed at her own nervousness. Aspenwhisker turned back to the gorge and tilted her head to one side in curiousity. If she didn't jump far enough... No, she didn't want to think about it.
Aspenwhisker had decided that the best way to get to RiverClan was to jump over the gorge. It was a long jump, but not impossibly long, and if she went through Fourtrees, a WindClan patrol could find her and question her, which was something she'd rather avoid happening. Besides, she wanted to arrive in style. First impressions are important, and for her, it was vital that the Clan liked her immediately.
Aspenwhisker took three large steps away from the gorge's mouth, closing her eyes and taking deep breaths to steady herself. Aspenwhisker opened her eyes again and ran forward, before she could scare herself out of doing it.
For a moment, she felt as light as air. The wind whistled past her ears, and there was no solid ground beneath her. With a jolt, her claws caught the other side if the gorge and she held on, even though she felt a horrible ripping sensation in the tips of her paws.
One by one, each of her claws came away and she fell towards the water below.
There was one more name- one that everybody, even her family, had called her at one point.
Reckless.
And perhaps they were right.
