I actually wrote something completely devoid of angst! It's probably a little on the cheesy side, but I'm in a fluff mood, so deal with it :P. OotP-Era.
Disclaimer: I don't even own the laptop I'm typing this on. What makes you think I own Harry Potter?
Rainbows
It is one of those rare, quiet moments that she and Remus have. Sirius is upstairs feeding Buckbeak, apparently "sick of watching Moony looking like a lovesick puppy". They are completely alone for the first time in Merlin knows how long, and she is content to lean into the crook of his arm in comfortable silence. Looking out of the grimy window, she sees that there is a rainbow in the sky, and smirks to herself.
"What is it?" Remus asks, snapping her from her thoughts.
"Oh, nothing, just thinking about my ex." She replies absentmindedly as she snuggles in closer to him.
"What every man wants to hear when he's with his girlfriend." He says sarcastically, ruffling her bright pink hair.
She elbows him in the ribs, though she can't help feeling warm and fuzzy at his referring to her as his girlfriend. Don't be so silly, she tells herself. You've been seeing him for ages, why does it always surprise you to hear that?
The truth was, she would never have expected someone like Remus to bother with her. She is clumsy and immature and loud. He is quiet, intelligent and a little shy. It still amazes her that he could ever return her feelings.
"Not like that! I remembered this incredibly soppy remark he once made, comparing me to a rainbow." She snorts derisively, and then glances up at Remus to see his reaction.
To her surprise, he doesn't laugh. Instead he stares blankly at her.
"Well that's just stupid. A rainbow is a spectrum of light that, while pretty to look at, lacks substance. You're a human being with thoughts and emotions and depth, who just happens to have a flamboyant taste in hair colours. To compare you to a rainbow is very superficial and only skin deep." He tells her with a puzzled frown that makes her heart melt.
He begins to lower his face down to meet hers, but she beats him to it and their lips collide in a soft kiss that takes her breath away. Only he could make this dingy, dank drawing room filled with Dark objects into the most romantic scene she has ever laid eyes on, and he does it all with that kiss.
"Anyway, you can't snog a rainbow on your best friend's sofa" he murmurs as he pulls away, his lips barely an inch from hers. An inch too far.
They kiss again, and as she tastes that familiar mixture of tea and chocolate on his breath, she realises something that deep down she has known for months, but never acknowledged:
I am completely, one hundred percent, irrevocably, head-over-heels in love with Remus John Lupin.
Well, what did you think? And before someone points this out to me, I know it's a bit short, but that's the general idea behind a vignette, see.
