It was extremely rare for Yunari Urameshi to be awake at eight in the morning; it was inconceivable that her cousin Yusuke would even consider opening his eyes at eight in the morning; so it came as a surprise, to those who actually knew the pair of young adults, when an extremely cheerful Yunari came striding through the college courtyard with her cousin's arm slung around her shoulder.
"Shouldn't you be working?" Yunari said through a grin.
"What? So I'm not allowed to walk you to class?"
Yunari laughed at her cousin's sarcastic tone, and shrugged, "I guess you could if you wanted... but I don't really have much further to walk..."
Yusuke dropped his free hand onto her head, ruffling her hair as he glared at a group of boys walking passed, "Yeah well, the longer I stick with you the less work I have to do."
Yunari snorted, swatting his hand away as she righted her skewed bangs, "I can't believe Keiko actually made you take up the janitor job. You were doing fine with the ramen stand weren't you?"
Yusuke shrugged, "Yeah well, who knows what goes through Keiko's mind these days."
A sly grin spread across Yunari's face, "I bet she's thinking of your future brats."
Yusuke caught her in a playful headlock, "Oh yeah? Is that what you were thinking when you dragged Hiei down here? "
Yunari yelped, scrambling comically to get away as her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, "What?! No! I just thought the trees here were nice... and he seemed lonely... and I don't have a roomie so I thought he might like the spare bed every now and again!"
Yusuke snorted, releasing her with a playful shove, "Uh huh, I bet."
"It's true!" Yunari insisted, taking a knee so that she could re-tie her shoe.
Yusuke took that opportunity to silently threaten the shifty looking male who had been watching Yunari from a nearby bench. He dragged a finger across his throat, giving the guy a death glare that would rival one of Hiei's.
They were on their way again as Yunari stood back up, and Yusuke pretended like he hadn't just threatened to kill a man.
"Crap!" Yunari yelped, catching a glimpse of the time on the courtyard clock, "I'm late!"
"Better run then," Yusuke said rolling his eyes as Yunari fretted over finding the building she was meant to be in.
"Yeah! I'll catch you later Yusuke!" Yunari darted away, waving to the spirit detective as she did so.
Yusuke watched her like a hawk until she was safely inside the building. Yunari had always been more like a sister to him, and he wasn't particularly fond of her choosing to live and go to school in such a dangerous part of the city. It didn't help his nerves much to know that she was every bit as careless with her actions as she was clueless about the dangers of the big city.
He let out a heavy sigh, shaking his head as he ran a set of long pale fingers through his slicked back hair.
"She can at least make it to her class safely right?"
