It really wasn't that long when you put it into perspective. She hadn't aged a great deal. Hadn't changed, still wore the same sized clothes. Still favoured the same brand of whiskey. Still wore her hair the same, though it was a little longer.
But 3 years was a long time. She held new scars now, some deeper than others, some much deeper. She was stronger, quicker, more agile. And she knew more. She had always know what was in the dark, how could she not. She had heard the stories, hundreds, even thousands. Hunters could have easy mouths given a few hard drinks and welcoming surroundings. There were different stories though. Those from the men looking for a bit of glory from a star struck girl. Tales that made monsters easy prey against powerful warriors. Where demons always died and men gained there scars which they showed off to everyone. Yet there were other stories. Those that hid in the shadows and in corners of all minds. Stories were demons were truly horrific, where hell came to Earth and nothing could be done. Where scars were not trophies worn pound on display. But hidden under layers and layers of clothing. These scars were from the times men were only men, were they bled as all people bleed.
3 years in this life, even if is a short time, gave you both these kinds of stories. Made her wear several more layers of clothes. And yet walked taller and prouder. 3 years of being a hunter changed her. But it was nothing to do with time. Nothing at all, it was all about she had seen. You could see one thing in just one moment, such a short glimpse, a flash and yet it would still make an impact. A scar that you would have to wear and carry around with you. That you might want hide behind layers of clothing. Or not.
