A/N: Just a random scene that popped into my head.

Harry had been more dependent on letters from his friends than he ever let on. On summer breaks, they were occupied with family and friends they had grown up with, whereas all Harry had was a room full of broken things he wouldn't need and a trunk full of wonderful things he couldn't use.

The summer after his Fifth Year, Harry found himself a little more frustrated than usual. Things with Sirius had settled down more or less, and that meant the excitement wasn't enough to cover the long periods between letters.

Ron was never the greatest penman nor particularly dedicated when it came to letters; he tried for Harry's sake (it may seem surprising, but Harry suspected Ron was the only one who understood the importance of communication with Harry during summers).

Hermione, whose letters made Harry the happiest solely due to their sheer length and enthusiasm, had not lived up to even half her record from the previous year (35 letters!), and this bothered Harry above all else.
