Maximum Ride – Fang and Gnaf
1
There is nothing more stressful than being attacked by an Eraser. Except perhaps being attacked by dozens of them. For those of you that have just picked up this story, I'll fill you in. An Eraser is a lupine-human hybrid. For those of you who don't know what lupine means, pick up a dictionary or go to Google.
Right now, they were fully morphed, running at top speeds to catch me (Max) and my flock. Not exactly the best way to start your day. But then again, I've had much worse. I could hear the Erasers snarling, just louder than my own panting.
"Fang! Find a clearing!"
Even as I said it, I regretted it. He looked back at me, running at top speed, but still able to roll his eyes.
We were actually starting to pull away, when I heard the gunshot.
CRACK!
Nobody was hit, and hopefully it would stay that way. Gazzy, Nudge, and Angel were ahead of us, using their smaller wings to make massive leaps and bounds. Iggy was trailing behind them, expertly using his sensitive ears to follow them. Gazzy must have found a clearing, because all four of them did an up and away. Iggy clipped his right wing on a branch, ripping out a few feathers. Ouch.
I glanced at Fang, who was now right next to me. He nodded. Together, we made a bee-line to the clearing, just about to make it, when Fang tripped. I ran another two feet, before I made a dead turn and ran back to him. The Erasers had beet me to it. One of them pounced on Fang.
He got a deserving boot to the snout, yelping as my foot made solid contact. Fang rolled and used both feet to hurl the Eraser into the air, just as his posse surrounded us.
"Well, you guys certainly know how to run!" An Eraser snarled, saliva dripping down his canines.
"And you guys certainly know how to die!" Gazzy said, dropping something down onto the Eraser that had spoken. Fang and I couldn't have gotten away faster. He spun up, already at a dead run, and I was three feet ahead of him.
"What the-" said the Eraser, just before Gazzy's work of art exploded; which in turn created another work of art.
We had already gotten to the clearing, and we both kicked off the ground. I unfurled my fourteen foot wings, and I heard a 'fwoosh' behind me. We were up a good hundred feet in no more than four seconds. The rest of the flock flew over.
"Way to go Gasman!" Iggy said, giving Gazzy a high five. Gazzy lit up, and punched the air. "That only took one bomb!"
We were all smiling, except for Fang. He had more of a smirk. We turned to fly away, just when we heard a gunshot. CRACK!
"Run!" I said, realizing that the verb didn't really apply to our current situation. We all turned and 'ran'. We flew for thirty seconds, before turning a sharp right, heading north. Anything to throw the erasers off our trail. Suddenly, Fang dropped like a stone. A very heavy stone.
