Hey guys, long time, no story. Sorry, but I've been extremely busy with all life had to throw at me as well as dodging obstacles (like responsibility) on my way to becoming a novelist. But, because you guys gave me my start as a writer, I felt no shame in returning to my roots with a little fanfiction, and I am actually debating whether or not my skills as a writer have improved enough for me to write some Agent Carter (Cartson) fanfiction, seeing as how that is my fav show and my fav ship (CarterxThompson). But, until that comes up, hope you all enjoy my very first Girl Meets World fanfic as well as my very first time writing Laya. Leave some reviews, I always love hearing feedback (even constructive criticism).

Disclaimer: I do NOT own Girl Meets World, Laya, or these beautiful characters, only my story idea and the dialogue:)

Riley sits on her bed, doing homework.

A tap on her window sends her walking toward it. She slides it open.

Maya climbs in.

"Maya," Riley steps aside as she gives her friend space to stand. "What are you doing here? Lucas is looking for you."

Maya nods as she turns around and shuts the window. "I know." She turns back to her friend. "And that's why I'm here."

Riley's shoulders slump as Maya walks over and sits down on the bed. She joins her friend.

"You can't hide from him forever, Maya." Riley says, her hand resting on Maya's knee.

Maya sets her hand atop her friend's, flashing a warm smile. "I know. But I have to try."

"I hope you know what you're doing." Riley says.

Maya expels a short breath through her nostrils. "I've no idea what I'm doing. But I know whatever I'm meant to do doesn't involve Lucas."

"How do you know?"

"I just do."

"Don't you wanna be happy?"

"Riley, I am happy. With the way things are. I've always been given half of everything." Maya says, pushing off the bed.

"And you're afraid Lucas will only give you half of his heart?"

"No. I'm afraid he'll give me all of it, and I won't know what to do with it."

Riley stands and walks toward Maya, reaches out and grabs her hand. "Can I help?"

Maya squeezes Riley's hand, her smile fading. "This is hard enough without you doing that."

Riley's hand falls, disappointed and defeated.

"Maya!" Lucas' voice comes through the small gap between the window and its pane just barely until Riley hurries over before Maya can stop her and lifts it higher.

"Come down. Please. I need to speak with you." His voice comes again.

"Don't tell him I'm here." Maya says to Riley.

"But-"

"Please." Maya stares into Riley's eyes, and the sadness and hurt seen in them only makes it harder for Riley to hide Maya from Lucas.

"This doesn't feel right." Riley says.

Maya runs into Riley's closet.

Lucas climbs up the fire escape till he's face to face with Riley.

"Lucas. Maya isn't-" Riley starts but stops when Lucas climbs in. He walks to the closet and folds the doors open. A pile of clothes stands tall, he pulls away a jacket and shirt on top, revealing the frowning face of Maya.

"Why are you running from me?" Lucas asks.

"Why are you chasing me?" Maya asks.

"Because I love you." Lucas answers.

"Stop saying that word." Maya says, shrugging off the rest of her camouflage, Riley's t-shirts and sweaters and jeans fall at her feet as she steps out of the closet and around Lucas only to be pulled back by him.

A moment of silence passes between the two as they stare at each other, neither wanting to start a conversation that the other will undoubtedly continue. It will only end in disaster.

"I'm gonna go downstairs." Riley says, breaking the silence.

Lucas and Maya turn their attention toward Riley as she awkwardly backs out of the room, slowly shutting the door.

"You can't keep running." Lucas says, turning back to Maya.

"I've been doing that my whole life, and nothing's stopped me so far." Maya starts toward the window, but Lucas grabs her arm, spinning her around to face him.

"Then let me be the first."

Maya stares into his eyes. "You want to stop me?"

"No," Lucas caresses the side of her face. "I want to be the reason you stop and stand still."

Maya's brows furrow as he leans closer.

"Let me be your reason." He says.

Their lips are just inches apart before Maya stops, and pulls away.

"Maya," Lucas whispers, his face twisting into sadness.

Maya closes her eyes and shakes her head. "No."

Lucas' hand falls from her face.

"I'm sorry." Maya steps back, edging her way closer to the window. "I can't. You can't. We... can't."

She slides out the window, but only one leg remains dangling inside.

"Maya, please." Lucas stares into her with pleading eyes. "Can't we just talk about this."

Maya returns his gaze with the same emotion his eyes hold, but doesn't say a word as she leaves.

Lucas is left standing there, his heart feeling like it's been shattered into pieces.

"Hey, I've got-" Riley enters with two plates of spaghetti, but stops mid-sentence as she notices Lucas stands alone.

Lucas stares back at her, a forced smile spreading on his lips.

Riley bows her head and backs out of the room, brandishing both plates of untouched spaghetti.

Welp, that's all for now! Please leave a review, tell me honestly how you felt, and the next chapter will be posted within days (not years like my other fanfics have horribly suffered -_-) See ya!
