Carved

Autumn had come fast after summer.

With all it's beautiful wonders, Nessie was mesmerized, as always. The trees turned different colors of gold and crimson and orange, falling to the ground as the wind, carrying its scent of bonfires and damp compost, flew into the clearing like ghosts from Halloween's past.

Nessie and Emmett were currently out on the porch, sitting on tarps as hands scooped out pumpkin guts and knives cut skillfully into the gourds flesh, making faces, both joyous and fearsome, with their deft fingers.

"Look Nessie," Emmett turned around his pumpkin and showed the face, it's teeth jutting in caddywhompus directions, "Do you like it?"

She smiled, like any child would and gave him praise before turning her own around, leaving Emmett's jaw on the porch's cement.

Her pumpkin was carved delicately, a moon and wolf, showing in the pumpkins flesh, just beneath the surface but never breaking through. To be lit within.

"Wow," was all he could manage to say.

"Yeah, I like it too."

Author's Note: My favorite Holiday in the entire year has to be Halloween. So this October I'm going to be posting many 'Autumn' themed stories. This one goes for my brother, Clifton, who's favorite Twilight character has to be Emmett, and whom he reminds me so dearly of. He's going through a hard time, so a prayer and a shout-out to him right now. Happy Autumn, everyone. Reviews are love. -Delta
