So this is my first story and it's a Faberry story with a side of Brittiana for good measure, it is set during the start of season two but may not follow all of the plots in that season. Now I want to make it clear that some character won't be shown in a good light and I really don't have any plans to show them getting better as people because well one some characters I don't like and others because it suited the plot idea for them to not be nice.
I hope that all you enjoy the story and I don't have a beta and honestly I am doing this for fun so really not looking for one either so please forgive me for any mistake that I make as I am doing all of this on my own. I may not be the best writer but I am going to try my best to get the plot that I believe is good across.
Disclaimer: None of the characters or songs are mine they belong to their respective owners.
Chapter One
Rachel Berry wasn't the most popular student at McKinley, in fact most would call her the second biggest loser in the school and that was because everyone found Jacob Ben Israel the biggest loser for how weird he was. Honestly to Rachel, she never understood why her follow students deemed her so unpopular, sure she didn't dress like a normal teenager but that only started because of the slushy attacks as it was a cheaper than using her normal clothes which could get ruin. She knew that unlike a lot of her follow students, she used proper grammar when she talked because she knew that would matter when she was famous and didn't want to seem like a Miley Cryus and be taken seriously as a singer, dancer and actress.
Of course they could all just be jealous because Rachel had the talent to get out of here when most of them would be stuck in Lima as a Lima Loser but again Rachel didn't understand either. In Rachel's mind, she believe that anyone to do what they wanted as long as they put their minds to it and never stopped believing in themselves, no matter how hard it was and to Rachel, despite how she acted on the outside, that was really tough. She couldn't remember a time where she actually felt comfortable in her skin anymore, the amount of times that people have called her RuPaul, Manhands or any such of nickname that made her out to be ugly had really gotten to her. She even knew that her boyfriend, Finn Hudson was embarrassed to be seen with her and she could only think that was because of the way she looked.
However whatever the reason, she couldn't bring herself to end it because at times, Finn is a really sweet boyfriend and he makes her actually think that he does care and love her. Rachel was now at her locker as she was sorting through her books making sure that they were in order so she wouldn't have to waste too much time here during the breaks between classes which will reduce the likely hood of a slushie attack, she hoped that she would be able to get through the day without one. However that thought was shorted live as soon as she closed her locker, she felt the cold, wet, sticky feel of the slushie on her face as she saw Azimio through the slushie laughing as she walked away with the empty slushie cup in his hands.
She looked about the crowded hallway to see the other people laughing as she turned into her locker to get her second set of clothes out of it, so that she could get changed in a bathroom. Once she got them, she looked over and say that Finn was standing there and didn't seem to care about her as he was busy talking to some football player. Her head dropped a bit for a second before she put her mask back on and went to the bathroom to get changed. Once she got into the bathroom she started to try to get the chunks of ice out of her head.
"Why can't they just leave me alone for one day, is that too much to ask?" Rachel started to talk to herself as she tried to make sure that she didn't have any in her hair before wash it as she didn't want it to be too sticky. She didn't really pay much attention to the bathroom when she entered it but was soon aware of someone in their when she heard the stall door open.
Rachel looked over and saw that it was Brittany, who looked a little sad as Rachel was too stunned to say anything. "Rachel, why didn't Finn stand up for you?" Brittany asked in an innocent voice that made Rachel not want to answer. She knew the answer but she didn't really want Brittany's world view to be in any way changed by what she said. It wasn't just because she was warned about what Santana would do but people like Brittany were special in this world and shouldn't be forced to change for anyone. "I mean I thought that you two have been dating since this summer, I mean I know I never saw it being lost in the sewers but I saw on your facebook that you said you had a good time with him. Why doesn't he protect you like Sanny protects me?"
Rachel couldn't really not answer her and she didn't want to lie so she thought that she would try her best to make it seem like she was okay with it. "Well Brittany, I know that some people like it when their partner stands up for them but I believe that I need to learn to stand up on my own feet and deal with the bullies by not letti..."
"You know not even I am buying that, Rachel, so that must be a pretty bad lie." Brittany said cutting Rachel off in her rant as Brittany made her way over to Rachel. Brittany wanted to know who someone's boyfriend wouldn't stand up for them, she knew that Santana was her soul mate and despite the fact that she wasn't her girlfriend yet but she knew it was only a matter of time before that happened. "Finn should have tried to make them stop, Rachel, that is what you do when you are dating someone. You protect them from anything that makes them sad."
"I guess that what happens when you are popular, Brittany but I am not. I am just a loser here and I am grateful that Finn is actually dating me. I mean he is the school quarterback and he is dating one of the biggest losers in the school." Brittany's face got sadder as she heard Rachel's answer as she didn't see her as a loser. Rachel was one of the few people in the school who was never mean to her. She always spoke to Brittany like she was a normal person and not someone who was stupid unlike a lot of people at McKinley High.
"You want me to get Santana to beat up the person who slushie you, Rachel? I mean she would totally do it for me if I pout and say that it made me sad which it does." Brittany said trying to find a way to make Rachel happy again. She liked Rachel when she was happy and singing, it made her feel like she was flying or something like that, honestly Brittany couldn't explain it but hearing Rachel sing was the happiest thing that happens that doesn't have Santana in it.
"No, Thank you, Brittany, don't go to any trouble for me. I know that Santana doesn't like me or really that you like me but I like that you are being nice to me in my time of need." Rachel was now washing her hair in the stink as Brittany tilled her head and looked at Rachel confused to why she was doing this here and not the locker room as she reached out and grabbed Rachel's head. "What are you doing, Brittany?" Rachel asked as she was confused to what was happened.
"Well I am taking you to the cheerio locker room so that you can wash you hair better, Rachie. Oh you don't mind that I called your Rachie right? I mean I know what you said about me not liking you but you are wrong, I do like you. I think you are really nice, smart and beautiful. I mean if I wasn't with Santa..." Brittany stopped herself as she remember what Santana said about not talking about their relationship in school before she started to talk again. "Anyway, I saw you as a friend as soon as you believe me and Santana last year, even though I did do what everyone was accusing us of. So I am going to help you, Rachie because you deserve to have someone, everyone deserves to have someone helping them."
Rachel wasn't sure what she could say as she felt Brittany pull her along the now empty hallways towards the cheerio's locker room. She didn't know what to do as she held the bag with her clothes in her right hand while being dragged towards the Cheerio's locker room by her left, she did want someone to help her. She thought that maybe Finn would come and check on her once but that never happened, she knew that he would never stand up for her. He was too worried about what his football friends would think if he tried to actually stand up to them. She knew that she wasn't seen as someone who is nice but here was a cheerleader doing what her boyfriend has failed to do ever since she dated him. Brittany finally lead them to the Cheerio locker room and opened her locker there and handed Rachel some shampoo and shower gel with a smile.
"I didn't know if you had any in your bag and you need it to get clean in the shower, Rachie. Don't worry about Coach, I will wait here and if she appear, I will pout so she doesn't give you a hard time." Brittany said as she pointed to the shower room at the end of the locker room. Rachel wasn't sure if she should use it or not after all Coach Sylvester was known for not being the nicest member of staff, actually she was known for being totally nuts.
"Errr Brittany, are you sure, I mean you need to go to class after all. That is important and you don't need to watch for me, I was fine in the bathroom. I appreciate your help and the fact that you are being nice to me given the fact that you are a cheerleader and I am seen as a loser of this high school but I think it would best for everyone if you would just g..." Brittany put her finger on Rachel's lips to keep her quiet which confused Rachel a bit, no-one had ever done that to her.
"You know you are cute when you talk way too much but I am going to be friend now. Friends look out for each other so go and get a shower than I will walk you to class." Brittany said as she knew that no-one could really say no to her, it was nice and she hoped that Rachel could see that she was trying to help her here. "You need to know that you aren't a loser, Rachie. People just don't know how to deal with someone who knows what they are going to be."
Rachel didn't know what to say but she knew that there no point in arguing with her so she just nodded and walked to shower to get washed and dressed for the rest of the school. Today was turning in a weird day for her but she wasn't sure that was a bad thing, well as long as Santana didn't find out about because than she would have to deal with the Latina and that wasn't something Rachel wanted to do.
Rachel still wasn't sure what to make of Brittany as she arrived at her class but the almost bone crashing hug that she got from the blonde made her know she wasn't kidding about being her friend. Not even Finn had done that in the hallways of the school for everyone to see. Rachel let the teacher know why she was late and she got told next time she needed to do it quicker. It was a disgrace to Rachel that the teachers here turned a blind eye to the slushie attacks by the jocks and cheerleaders of the school. She thought that it was their job to make sure that everyone was safe and slushie could cause an injury if someone was to slip on it or if it got into a person's eye.
However Rachel had given up on trying to make Principal Figgins see that banning slushies was the best way for the school to move forward without the threat of daily assaults but Figgins just told her that the slushie attacks weren't classed as an assault and that there was nothing that he could do. Rachel also read while doing research into why the slushies should be banned in the school that they machine makes the school a lot of money and may actually be reduced a lot if Figgins actually did something about the attacks on the students. In the end Rachel knew that Figgins only cared about the money.
Rachel knew that she should be paying more attention to the class but she couldn't help but think that maybe Brittany would become her friend. Of course she didn't think that Brittany was a liar or anything but she knew what Santana would say about her being friends with Rachel and that would make it tough for them. However she saw that Brittany was pretty set on being her friend which was good because she needed one here badly. She knew that the glee club acted like they cared about her but they never helped her with the slushies, of course she saw how they would all rush to the aid of the others but never for her. It hurt Rachel because it made it more clear that they only cared about her because of her voice and not because they were her friends.
Rachel signed as she looked across the room to see Kurt and Mercedes gossiping away in the class but they never thought about talking to her, they were just in their own world. She knew that maybe if she wasn't so bossy during glee or if she didn't fight so hard for solos that she could maybe make more friends but the Glee Club needed someone to be bossy at times and Mr Schuester may be a fun teacher, he wasn't the best show choir coach. At times, Rachel often wished that they could have had a show choir version of Coach Sylvester because than they would actually get some work done instead of leaving it until the last minute. Sometimes Rachel wondered why she ever tried because no-one seem to like it when she did.
Rachel had managed to get through most of the day without getting another slushie but it was now lunch time and she knew that was always when it was the most dangerous. The jock were always about and she knew that they were always on the look out for her. She had hoped that maybe because she had a slushie today already that they would go easy on her and not do it again but she wasn't holding her breath as she knew that they weren't know to go easy on her in the past. Rachel sighed and hoped that she could make the auditorium before any of the jocks could find her.
That was always Rachel's safe place from the slushies at lunch. No-one ever thought about looking in the auditorium or maybe they just didn't believe anyone would be in there because lunch was a time to hang out with friends. Something that she didn't have at the school so what was the point in going where people were. She may as well be safe from the attacks and mocking in somewhere safe. Rachel was almost at the auditorium but she saw that in her way was Azimio with a slushie in his hands. Rachel knew what was about to come her way as she saw the football player make his way towards her. She closed her eyes for the cold feeling to hit her face but to her surprise it never came despite the foot steps coming to a stop.
When Rachel opened her eyes, she was shocked to see that Azimio was now covered in the slushie with Brittany innocently looking at him at Rachel's side. "Oops sorry, you know me, nothing knowing where I am going." Brittany said but no-one actually believe that it was an accident given that the cup seemed to have been knocked into Azimio.
The football player looked pissed off as he stared at Brittany. "Listen here, you reta..."
"Oh I know you weren't just call Britt-Britt what I think you were going to say, Azimio because that would be a big mistake." No-one was really surprised to hear Santana coming to Brittany's recuse. No matter where the blonde was, Santana always seemed to find a way to be next to Brittany whenever she needed her. Santana stared at Azimio as she folded her arms. "Now you best be getting moving 'fore I go all Lima Heights on your ass." Azimio didn't look if he needed to be told twice as he knew that Santana could make his life bad in McKinley. Once Azimio was out of the way, Santana turned to see Brittany standing with Rachel and with a confused look on her face begins to talk "Why are you hanging with Manhands, B."
Rachel looked down before she walked away and headed to the auditorium, knowing that it was silly to get her hopes up for Brittany being her friend with Santana about. However Brittany watched Rachel walk away and could tell that she was sad which made her mad as Santana reached out for her pinkie. Brittany moved her hand so that Santana couldn't get it as she looked at the Latina. "I want to be Rachel's friend, so stop calling her names, Sanny."
Santana looks even more confused as she didn't understand why anyone would want to be Rachel's friend, she was a loud, bossy and annoying loser of the school. She was only above JBI really and that wasn't saying much. "Why Brittany, she is a loser? She is just gonna drag our rep down if we are friends with her and well no-one even likes Manhands so why would you want to be her friend? We need to head to lunch because I needs to get my eat on, Britts."
Santana again reached for Brittany's pinkie but this time Brittany stepped back as she looked at Santana with disappointment in her eye for the first time ever. Brittany knew that Santana was a good person but she didn't like that she hid it from everyone because they should all see the awesome person that the Latina was. "No, I am going to find Rachel and have lunch with her because I am mad at you. You don't get to choice my friends for me, Sanny, I can be friends with Rachel if I want too. I am going to be her friend and you need to stop with the name calling or I will stop with the sweet lady kisses, San."
Brittany walked away, leaving the Latina staring at the Blonde wondering what the heck just happened. She didn't believe that Brittany actually stood up to her about Rachel. That wasn't meant to happen, Brittany was meant to be with her and not some jewish freak. She didn't know what to do as she choice to head the lunch on her own and work out how to get Brittany back.
Rachel was enjoying her lunch, all be it by herself in the auditorium. Part of her felt stupid for getting her hopes up that Brittany would become her friend, after all Brittany had just saved her from another slushie attack moments before the Latina appeared and seemed to say everything that everyone at McKinley thought about her. She wanted more friends at School because that would make everything easier. Maybe if she had friends in glee than she wouldn't always feel left out of things here, they only seemed to want her for her voice.
Rachel was taking a drink out of her bottle of water when she saw Brittany walking down towards the stage that Rachel was sitting on. Rachel was shocked to see the blonde there and was even more shocked that Brittany actually looked happy to there, even waving to the brunette as she made her way towards her. Brittany smiles as she looks at Rachel. "Sorry about that, Rachie, I really do what to be your friend, no matter what San says about it because you have always been nice to me and don't treat me like I am stupid."
Rachel still looks like she didn't know what was happening but when she heard the blonde talk about herself being stupid she just went on auto-pilot really. "You're not stupid, Brittany, you simply see the world differently. In fact I wish that everyone saw the world the way you see it because I am sure that it would be a much better and nicer place." Brittany smiles and almost squeals when she heard that as it made her think that it would be easier than she thought to become Rachel's friend but than she got a confused look on her face which Rachel saw. "What's up, Brittany?"
Brittany didn't want to ask what she wanted to ask but she knew that she would look confused until she asked it, her head was actually starting to hurt from thinking about it. So she was just going to ask the question that she was thinking about. "Rachel, you are always really nice but I don't get how you could have send Sunshine to a crack house, at first I thought that was a house that had a crack in it until Sanny told me it was a bad place. Why did you do that?"
Rachel bite her bottom lip which Brittany thought was cute, Rachel didn't know how to say what actually happened because she wouldn't actually send that girl to a crack house, even if it was said to be an inactive one. She thought that honestly was best for this, if she wanted Brittany to be her friend than she need to tell the truth. "Well actually, I didn't send her to a inactive crack house. She kinda saw me take a slushie attack and she changed her mind about the audition, she was feeling bad about it as Tina and Mike were talking to her about how good it would be for her to join. I said that she should just say that I told her the wrong address, which I found online. I didn't even know it was a crack house until Mike and Tina told me it was one, I just thought it was an abandoned building."
The more Brittany thought about it, the more it made sense. Rachel would never put herself before the glee club, sure she wanted every solo but Brittany knew that was because Rachel was the best singer in New Directions. It would be the same with her and Mike about dance solos, they deserved them more than anyone else because they were the best dancers. "Oh why did she audition at all?"
"Well she felt bad that was being seen as a bad guy so choice to join thinking that it would be better that way, it would look like she had forgiven me and maybe than everyone else wouldn't be upset anymore but than she got a offer from Vocal Adrenaline that she couldn't refuse." Rachel said as she took a bite out of her sandwich
Brittany smiled as she just hugged Rachel before she sat down next to her and started to eat her lunch. Rachel was shocked but the small chat from Brittany made her snap out of it and they talked about random stuff like glee, how crazy Sue was and other stuff that Rachel guessed that friends talked about. Rachel could tell that Brittany was being sincere from her eyes and she was actually listening to Rachel too. She wasn't going to spill all of her secrets yet but she thought that Brittany was actually trying here.
Unknown to the pair, Santana and Quinn was watching them laugh and joke from the door of the auditorium, Santana wanted to march down there and get Brittany back but Quinn reminded her that she tried that in the hallway. Santana still wasn't happy about Rachel spending time with Brittany and for some reason, Quinn wasn't happy when she heard Rachel laughing at some joke that Brittany must have told. Quinn was a little confused by that but she just put it down to the fact that she didn't like Rachel and didn't want to see her happy. Quinn pulled Santana away from the door as they went to their lockers, both knowing that they had to stop this friendship form taking off before it was too late.
Okay so this is the first chapter, I don't know how regularly I will be able to post chapters but I don't plan on just leaving it unfinished either. Reviews are always welcome really and I do have a some plot points planned out already.
Next chapter, you will see how Santana and Quinn's friendship as well as the New Directions reaction to Britt-Berry friendship.
