I wrote this when I was in a depressing mood. Leah always helps me get my depression out. I love you Leah! Frick you, Sam!
Leah trudged through the mud with a blank expression. The mud that drowned her feet and speckled her jeans did not bother her as much as it should have. The rain poured down hard until it was a light blue sheet that coated her vision. Her ears rang with water hitting the ground and the scurry of paws fleeting from her and that followed her, though she tried to ignore it.
She crossed her arms across her chest and more paws hit the ground around her. It annoyed her to no end, but again she tried to ignore them. She did not need to deal with them on top of what went on inside her head at the moment. The rain only seemed to dampen her thoughts even more.
The guilt, she flinched at the thought. The guilt of being who she was. The guilt of becoming who she was. The guilt of being one of them. It followed her like a shadow, but no matter how hard she tried to shine light on this shadow, it never faded. No, it was more like a second skin. A thing that clung to every step she took and every breath that shook her body.
The stomps of paws became louder.
The pain, her heart clenched. The pain of changing. The pain of coming back to her sense afterward. The pain of seeing him lying on the floor. The pain of holding onto his cold body. It hurt every time to remember and she remembered every day. Every time she woke up she remembered. Every time she fell asleep she remembered. It hurt to think that she caused it. She caused a death by being who she was.
The paws came closer.
The anger, she grits her teeth. Her anger mixed with her mothers caused the white hot fire that blazed and burned the ties of their relationship. That day all ties were severed between them. The anger that to this day made her cry. Her mother had never forgiven her for her changing. Never forgiven her for taking her husband away from her.
The rain was a buzzing when it came to the paws, pants, and growls that surrounded her.
"Stop!" she screamed. Leah knelt in the mud, wrapping her arms around herself, salty tears mixing with the rain. The paws stopped, but Leah's voice still rang in the blur of sounds.
"Please, stop." she whimpered. So very softly, footsteps walked towards her, but she did nothing but cry. Made no move to stop them. A hand was on her shoulder before she realized it. Leah whipped her head towards them, her hair slapping both of their faces.
"I'm sorry, Leah." Though she had excellent hearing, she still had to strain to hear her brother's words. Seth slowly wrapped his arms around her, cuddling his older sister to his chest and letting her cry until she couldn't anymore. Leah clenched her fists and punched him weakly, a last show of anger before she collapsed against him.
The rain still poured. Her guilt still clung. Her anger still roared. But the paws had finally stopped walking and she finally could forget for just one moment who she was and the consequences of it.
