My name is Josh. I'm an average sixteen year old boy from America- at least I used to be.
My family comes from a long line of dragon worshipers. The dragons were extinct for hundreds of years, but they have begun to make a comeback. On my 16th birthday, I learned that my ten times great grandmother had been blessed with the dragon blood, meaning her father was a dragon. This blood has been passed down from generation to generation, dormant. Until now.
I woke up in the middle of the night, my body being overwhelmed with pain. It felt like my bones were shifting, and I jumped out of bed from the pain. Stumbling around my room, thrashing, I crashed out of my window and hit the ground. Suddenly, it felt as if something was protruding from my back, slowing ripping my flesh. I tried to scream, but nothing came out. My vocal cords were changing too. They were silenced during the process. With great force, a set of wings burst out from my back, tearing my skin around them to legs were next. I felt my bones breaking, rearranging themselves into unnatural positions, and even growing. Then my arms, my hands, growing larger. I mustered the strength to open my eyes, looking to my hands. They were covered in black scales, and my fingertips began to be encompassed by the nails, which then hardened into claws.
Finally, my neck began to stretch, becoming longer and longer. I felt a burning sensation in my throat, and when I tried to scream, a roar came out, accompanied by fire. Then, suddenly, the pain is gone. I feel the joints in my wings, amazed, and try to take off. I fly up high, a feeling of ecstasy flowing over me, as if I had just forgotten about the transformation completely. Next thing I remember, I'm a human again and falling at high speeds towards the ground. Seconds later, it seemed, I woke up in my bed, an hour after everything happened.
I have the ability to transform into a dragon, the once dead beasts that now once again walk the Earth. My mother has told me that I have been chosen to defeat them, to once more make them extinct. She says that this is a gift, a blessing. I say that it's a curse.
