A/N: So this is a slight AU. From what is what "The Steward and the King" says: "Faramir had sent for this robe (the mantle) and had wrapped it about her;" so I am just taking it to a different when he did that.

Disclaimer: Not mine.

Dedication: To Kat. Hope things get better!

Faramir walked back to his rooms. It was late and he could see the glowing of Mt. Doom in the east. He passed by the windows over looking the gardens and had to stop and look again. There, sitting in the garden, was Éowyn, looking like the White Lady he knew her as. He wondered why she was there, she looked vulnerable with her arm in a sling and the other wrapped around her. He knew that he should go and make her go back inside, but she would just go back after he told her. He would go out there with her instead. He went and got his cloak, and saw what he had asked for after he had first met Éowyn. His mother's mantle lay on the trunk in front of his bed. He knew that he was going to give it to her tonight.

He wrapped the cloak around himself and took the mantle with him. She was still sitting there, looking out east. He walked as silently as he could to sit by her. He sat and when she turned her face, he met her eyes.

"Tis a cold night to be out." He said still keeping eye contact with her.

"It is always cold, it is just another night." She replied. She broke away from his eyes and turned them back to out over the fields.

She turned back to him. "Lie to me. Tell me that somehow everything will turn out for the better in the end. Tell me that all this sorrow and pain will stop. Tell me, lie to me." She pleaded with him, eyes imploring him to say the words. "Make me believe."

He looked at her and thought that she glowed in the night. He did not know what to say. He did not know if he truly believed that this darkness would ever cease. And then he thought more. This darkness, this night, would end. That he knew and could say. "Éowyn, this night, this darkness will end. And yet, even thought the night is dark there is still light. In the moon, there is light for the night," he said looking at her. "And the stars when even the moon has succumb to darkness." He took his mother's mantle and placed it around her shoulders. "Keep the stars with you and the darkness can not fully win."

Éowyn looked at the mantle that was now around her. What she could see in the darkness was the only the silver stars against the midnight blue of the mantle. She could only see the stars around her. "I can not except this." She whispered.

"I may give this to whom ever I choose. You need the stars to light your darkness Éowyn." He said softly.

She rested against him, pulling the mantle closer around her. Faramir looked down at her and slowly wrapped his arms around her. When she did not flinch or move away, he completely took her in his arms.

"Thank you, for making me believe." She finally said.

He smiled. "Come Éowyn, you should be inside." He said standing up. He offered her his arm. She took it with her left hand; the pain and stiffness were less than she had remembered. They walked in silence back to the room that Éowyn had been given, with a window facing east.

Faramir stopped at her door and kissed her brow. "Thank you." He whispered.

"For what?" She asked.

"For making me believe."

A/N: Well, I realized that some of what was said is vaguely like FOTR. Yeah, well, I haven't watched that in awhile and I am home and FOTR is at school. Not cool. Just thought I should say that. Please review!
