I never truly belonged in Amity. I felt like a fake, a fraud, putting on my happy façade from morning until night. But my façade was showing cracks. At night my façade and forced happiness would wash away with the tears I cried myself to sleep with, yet I fell asleep only to be haunted by torturous nightmares. My past had broken me and I was forever unfixable. I didn't belong with the pure and innocent. I never truly belonged in Amity.
PAGE BREAK
The Dauntless cafeteria was bustling with black-clothed bodies and the chorus of heated conversations as I moved with my tray of food to sit with the other new transfer initiates. I picked at my food idly pondering over my choice to transfer, this world was so different to the peaceful Amity life I was used to. Had I made the right decision to overcome my past by learning to become brave? Caught up in my thoughts, it only just struck me that the entire room had gone eerily quiet. I looked up bewildered, searching for the cause of the sudden lapse in all conversations. Then I locked eyes with him. He was already staring at me when I caught his gaze, his lips slowly forming into a menacing and cocky grin. I could feel my body violently trembling as the memories came thrashing through my mind like an injection of poison had just been administered straight to my brain. His slow, confident steps were headed towards me. He was here. He was here, and he was coming towards me. I squeezed my eyes shut tight, my hands balled into fists as I willed myself to disappear, my shoulders hunching in a desperate attempt to shield myself from this reality. I felt a hand fall on my shoulder and I flinched away from the cold touch. "Aria, how wonderful it is to see you again," echoed across the cafeteria, the crowds of previously boisterous people all silently staring and listening in. I felt his hand cup my cheek before slowly sliding a strand of wispy hair behind my ear. My body involuntarily jerked in protest as the torturing memories came searing through my brain. Then, a hand was locked around my wrist, I was being dragged. My eyes shot open as I was roughly yanked through the cafeteria, the whole room stared wide eyed and open-mouthed, shocked at the scene that was playing out before them. I stumbled as I attempted to pull my wrist from his grasp, trying to escape by yanking my hand away. A piercing scream bubbled past my lips as the grip on my wrist tightened to the point of blinding agony: it was a threat of what would happen if I continued to resist him. I reluctantly quashed the instinct to flee and allowed myself to be dragged out into the Pit where there were less intrigued observers. Coming to an abrupt halt, he whirled round, pressing his body closer to mine than felt comfortable. A wicked grin flashed across his face as he leaned down murmuring, "Well well well, I didn't think I'd be seeing you again anytime soon,", I cringed away from his heated breath, feeling nauseous at the close contact. I watched numbly as his hand slid down my hip and rested on my bum. Instinctively, I flinched when his hand squeezed the flesh there, my hands swiftly reacting by reaching up and shoving his chest in response. We both stood wide-eyed at my sudden reaction. The need to flee coursed through my body and I turned on my heel in a hurry to be away when I felt his hand snatch at my wrist once again. He pulled my body back against his, his lips immediately going to my ear and whispering "Don't you dare tell anybody,". Then he was gone, vanishing into the daunting Dauntless shadows.
