Hello! I wrote this for my friend GoldenPhoenix864 and she somehow persuaded me to publish it so I thought I would - if nothing else it might make you smile (even if you're laughing at my shocking poetry)
When Merlin and Arthur were "reading poetry" I don't think this is quite what Leon had in mind...
:)
The Race
In a land of myth, in a faraway place
A king and a servant compete in a race
Through forest and woodland on horseback they ride
One filled with magic, the other with pride
The master is faster, his horse pulls ahead
The servant decides to use magic instead
With a flash of his eyes his steed becomes stronger,
The mare gallops on as her legs become longer!
He closes the distance in no time at all
On the horse which is suddenly not quite so small
The King is bewildered but spurs his steed on
And of course, in the end, it was Arthur who won
For Merlin didn't want to win it that way
So he made the effects of his spell go away
The horse became shorter, and much more rotund
The kind of horse that a servant could fund
And now the King's steed was fitter and leaner
Charging along far ahead of the cleaner *
And Arthur just laughed, pulled his horse to a halt,
cried, "didn't you think I would notice? You dolt!"
In the time of magic when Arthur was King
His best friend in the world had started to wring
His hands with guilt, then one day he spilled
The secret that might have caused him to be killed
But though Arthur was angry, betrayed and upset
He knew much had changed since the day that they'd met
When Merlin was no one, and Arthur a prat
For no one else had ever dared to call him fat
When he was the prince, arrogant and proud
Showing off to his friends, and being so loud
when laughing at Morris, that Merlin had seen
And tried to step in to stop him being mean
And then he'd been picked on and then they had fought
In the market where things were sold and bought
But years later, when Arthur called Merlin his friend
He hadn't thought fighting was how it should end
So the laws were changed and magic was free
And so was Merlin, and then history
Began to be formed and began to be written:
How Arthur and Gwen were completely smitten
How Merlin brought Freya out of the lake
And Agravaine was impaled on a pointed stake
How Morgana's hatred drove her mad
But in the end, she was only lonely and sad
A result of years of being so scared
And thinking that no one, not even Gwen, cared.
When the schedule allowed it, whenever they could,
The King and the servant would race in the wood
Escaping the pressures of everyday life
Laughing and joking, forgetting all strife.*
They raced through the trees, branches whipping their faces
And there they were free. Who cared about places
In the hierarchy, society, or classes, or rank?
The servant was wise, the King's socks still stank
They were both just people, by a bond they were joined
For they were, after all, two sides of one coin.
* sorry :)
well? Have I scarred you for life with my terrifying rhyming couplets?
If I made one person smile then it was worth publishing, so if you liked it (or hated it so much it made you chuckle) let me know! :)
Kalia x
