Author's Note: I'm not exactly sure where this comes from, I've recently been watching the HP movies again (and gearing up for another read of the books) and while this pairing is not my favourite (though, it is the only one that I've posted for in this fandom) it always comes back to bite me with an idea or two. This is a short little piece that I hope you enjoy.
"I let you go," She whispers softly as she holds the young woman in her arms, tightening her grasp for a moment, a heart beat, before releasing her back into the world. "And it was the worst mistake of my life."
The woman nods her head for she understands, but still, she cannot change the past. "I've moved on." She mutters looking into Pansy's eyes, eyes clouded by the regrets that she cannot escape. "I'm sorry."
Pansy nods her head because there is nothing else that she can do before moving away from the woman she once called her own. "I understand Hermione," She pauses, thinking for a second whether or not she should admit it before the words burst from her lips. "But I still love you."
Hermione smiles the smile that Pansy would always adore as she turned her back on the dark haired woman and laced her fingers through a pale hand walking away in the same way that Pansy had done in the years before. They understood one another and knew that they could have been happy with one another, but differences that Pansy could not overcome had broken them, and they would never be whole with each other again. No matter the regrets that Pansy held in her heart, or the throbbing that ran through Hermione's body at the memories. Pansy had broken them once, with her words and her pain, but Hermione kept them apart for she knew that she wouldn't be able to survive another shattering.
They would always love, but always from a distance.
