The Courtyard
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
What a day to be cooped up inside. Remus thought dully as he made his way to class after a morning of study.
A gentle breeze wafted through his mousy hair and he stopped to look out at the clear blue sky. His eyes followed an owl swooping down from the air to deliver a letter to an unknown someone.
A catch of red caught his eye and he looked down briefly. He looked down again when he took in three familiar faces.
The red, of course, belonged to Lily Evans, her glowing auburn hair. At the moment she was watching two boys partake in a mock duel. Sirius Black and James Potter, his best mates. She laughed as James began a series of over-entusiastic wand waving.
Remus was so very intent on watching the two that he was caught by surprise when Lily called out his name.
"Remus! What are you doing up there lurking about?"
Sirius and James followed suit.
"Oy, Moony! Get your flea-bitten arse down here!" Sirius yelled.
"We'll let you be referee! C'mon Moony!" James said, waving him down.
He smiled absentmindedly and was about to respond when a voice startled him from behind.
"Professor Lupin?"
He whirled around to face the same bespectacled face he'd seen seconds before.
He turned his head and glanced down to find the courtyard completely empty.
"Professor? Are you--?"
"Perfectly fine, Harry. Just let my mind wander."
"Let's move along now, or we'll be late for class." He said quickly, when Harry was about to inquire further. He managed a small smile. "I—just need a moment."
Remus waited until he disappeared around the corner before looking down at the courtyard once more.
He watched as a young boy with mousy hair joined the three figures below.
Author's Note: Poor, Remus. He's really the last marauder, since Peter is a sjrekjrsnfurhuethwljrwk.
