"The letters, they are here!" exclaimed Summer.
"Calm down my little one, remember what we talked about. No matter what happens, no matter if one, both, or neither of us get accepted into Brown University, we will be happy and everything will work itself out" Seth said, trying to reassure Summer but knowing it was he who need to reassurance.
"Yea, Yea, Yea, Open 'em!"
As the two of them sat down on Seth's bed, the tension in the room could be cut with a knife, but all of this changed with the ring of the phone…
" Summer, it's for you..." Said Seth annoyed.
" Hey Maris, What's up?"
" We just got our letter's from Berkley…Seth and I want to open them with you guys, meet us at the Pier?"
"Yeah of course!" Said Summer excited, expecting that with these fat letters the whole gang would be happy.
However, on the drive to the pier thoughts began swirling in her head. Summer began to freak out. 'What if I don't get in? What if I do and Seth doesn't? His dreams will be shot and I know he'll hate me forever! It's just school is doesn't matter...but I want to prove I'm more than just a ditsy rich girl! Why does he look so calm? Does he know something I don't?" Summer was turning into a mad woman, and looking at calm and collected Seth just made it worse.
Little did Summer know, Seth was freaking out even more than her, 'This is it...this is my defining moment', He thought, 'This is the moment that will make me a man. I want Summer to get in, I love her, she's probably the best catch I'll ever get, but If she gets in and I don't, I don't think I'll be able to look at her… she would have ruin my life long dream. But it's technically not her fault…or is it? How can they accept her and not me, Come on, that would be nonsense! It will all be fine, we'll both get in and live happily ever after…or will we?'
Thankfully the drive was over, and the two spotted Summer and Ryan giggling away, watching the ocean waves crash.
"Jeez, they are awfully calm!" Proclaimed Summer.
"It's Ryan and Marissa. The two of them could have their own Soap Opera. They've been through more in the past two years than we will have to be through in a lifetime. I think college is the least of their worries. I mean, up to six months ago neither of them even wanted to go to school and now they are applying to Berkley…man, how things have changed!" Seth said nostalgically.
"Hey. What's up?" Ryan called out to the two.
"Oh you know, not much. Just about to find out if I will be a failure in life or not…the usual" Replied Seth, using his sarcasm as a defense mechanism…as usual.
"Come on man, you'll always be winner in my eyes" Replied Ryan, as he pinched Seth's cheeks".
But Seth was no longer in a joking mood; he wanted to open this letter already! The four of them sat down on the bench that they have spent so many afternoons laughing and enjoying their youth on.
"You guys ready?" Asked Marissa, clearly speaking to Summer and Seth who looked like nervous wrecks.
Summer took a deep breath, " Let's do this! Good luck guys, I love you all."
As the four of them opened their letters, all eight hands began to shake for their future was to be determined as this moment.
The letters were open and the four began to read…they all looked up.
Marissa and Ryan looked at each other and began to beam…while Summer and Seth looked up then down, then stared blankly at the ocean that lied ahead.
Not everything goes as you expect and it seemed the gang would be together for yet another four years…
