Don't own Gundam Seed...

*huff, huff, huff, huff.*

*rustle rustle*

Sigh.

*huff, huff, huff*

"He went that way. FIND HIM!"

*huff, huff, huff*

* Weeo, Weeo,Weeo*

"He couldn't have gotten far. Spread out, search the bushes. This park is huge and it's

dark, so remember he has the advantage. Go!"

*huff, huff, huff*

Fade out dark, cold, damp park…

Fade in courthouse…

*click, clack. Click, clack.*

The sound of her heels echoed off the walls of the quiet courthouse. The light beige walls

and wooden trim brightened the room, but did nothing for her mood. She was running late

for a court appearance and she didn't imagine the judge would be too happy about that.

She found the courtroom where the trail had already taken place. Two guards stood

outside the door, she showed them her pass and was granted entrance. This trail was

private. Only the attorneys, judge, bailiff and jury were allowed in, except those who were

testifying.

"Your honour, I would like to call Miss Cagalli Yula Attha to the stand, the acting forensic

psychologist in this case."

Cagalli put her stuff on a bench and made her way to the stand.

"State your name."

"Cagalli Yula Attha."

The bailiff approached her, bible in hand.

"Miss Attha, please raise your right hand... Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth

and nothing but the truth so help you God?"

"I do."

The bailiff stepped down and the district attorney stepped up.

"Miss Attha, thank you for coming today. Can you please tell us about your first impression

of Mr. Asuka when you met with him the night of his arrest?"

"My first impression was that he was reluctant to share any information with me..."

Flashback 6 months ago...

Cagalli was standing in the dimly lit room behind the one way glass, staring at her next

patient. Arms crossed and eyebrows raised she asked detective Westenfluss:

"This is the guy? I don't know Heine, are you sure? He doesn't seem like the murder

type..."

"Don't worry Cagalli, we've got all the evidence we need to nail this guy. His own sister.

Man, I knew from the second we picked him up he was crazy. Normal people don't murder

their sisters and pretend they don't know their dead. That's just sick."

"Well, that's why I'm here, to determine whether he really is crazy or not. Wish me luck."

She said as she left the room.

A minute later she entered the interrogation room, completely straight faced and totally professional. She wore a white, loose fitted top and a black pencil skirt. Her square glasses sat on the bridge of her nose, her black heels made clicking noises as she walked to the table to

interview the man.

"Mr. Asuka, I'm Cagalli, the forensic psychologist assigned to your case."

Shinn just scoffed and looked away.

"I'll be doing some testing with you tonight, to determine your current state of mind."

She had already decided that a multiple choice questionnaire would be the best way to go

with this guy. Based on how he was interacting with the detectives earlier, she didn't think

a clinical interview would be of any use. Tests gave more information anyway.

"Let's start with a few simple questions..." she started as she pulled out her laptop.

"What's your name?"

"... Sigh. Shinn Asuka."

"Date of birth?"

"September 1st."

"Okay, great. I want to ask you about your emotional tendencies." She looked up and

stared at him for a minute.

"Mr. Asuka, do you feel guilty if you cry in public?"

Shinn looked at her, slightly confused.

"um, I guess not."

"Yes or no answers please."

"No."

"Do you think crying is a sign of weakness, especially in men or boys?"

"Sometim-" She looked at him.

"No." He said quickly.

"Do you try to hide your anger?"

"No."

"Do you hold onto things that make you angry?"

"No."

"Does your temper ever get out of control?"

"..."

"Answer the question Mr. Asuka."

"Yes, but..."

"Has your temper ever gotten you into trouble? With the law or otherwise?"

"...Yes, but you don't understand"

"Would you cry at your sister's funeral?"

Shinn stood up and hit his fists off the table.

"THAT'S ENOUGH! WHAT KIND OF SICKO DO YOU THINK I AM?"

"Mr. Asuka, answer the question." Cagalli seemed unfazed. She had experienced these

kinds of outbursts before.

"Of course I would." He said in a quiet voice as he sat back down.

Cagalli looked up at him. She saw the grief on his face and for a second felt sorry for him.

His red eyes caught her amber ones. She stared at him for a second, before catching

herself and getting back to the questions...

Present day courthouse

"Would you say he was remorseful of his actions?"

Cagalli took in the features of the DA. Shoulder length dark brown hair, hazel eyes

covered by glasses, a bit bigger than her own. She was tall and lean and was dressed

well. A red button up shirt and black dress pants with a pair of plain, simple black heels.

She looked like she had walked out of a "Business Weekly" magazine.

"Yes. My test concluded he was mentally sound."

"So you think Mr. Asuka should be charged a full sentence?"

"That's not really for me to decide."

"No further questions, thank you Miss Attha."

She turned and walked back to her seat confidently, as if she already had this trial in the

bag. Cagalli guessed she was the type who counted her wins and never lost.

The defense attorney stood up, shuffling some papers around his table, then walked

towards her. He had short light brown hair, big brown eyes, with slightly tanned skin. He

wore a dark blue suit with a red tie and white shirt. If Cagalli was being honest, she

thought he was handsome, but he looked way too arrogant for her tastes.

"Miss Attha. How long have you been a forensic psychologist?"

"Four years."

"And how many cases have you handled would you say, approximately?"

"Maybe 40 cases."

"So you're still relatively new to this job?"

"I wouldn't say that."

"What kind of testing did you do with my client?"

"I did a basic emotion test to see if he was able to feel emotions the same way everyone

else does, followed by an overall neuropsychological test to check for any deficits in his

cognitive functioning. This was to make sure his ability to reason was intact. Often when

dealing with a murder case the suspect in questions ability to reason is off."

"I see. And would you say you test was one hundred percent reliable?"

"It's reliable and up to code with the OPA if that's what you're asking."

"Can you explain how a test is validated?"

"With this specific test it would be construct validity that would be used. That is the ability

of this test to measure the psychological construct, in this case ability to reason and

emotional function, that it was designed to measure."

"Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not true that the validity of a test is based also on

the reliability of said test?"

"Yes... What's your point?"

"Did you redo said test after a certain amount of time?"

"Well, no. I didn't find anything the first time so what reason would I have to run the test

again?"

"Your test is not valid, if it is not reliable. That's the reason you would run it again. Your

honour, this being said I move to have my client retested, under the test-retest reliability

rule as stated in the Code of Conduct for Psychology."

"Approved. Miss Attha, you should have redone the test, prior to this court date. I rule that

a separate test will be conducted and redone before this case goes to full trial. Dismissed."

Orb Island Prison one month later...

*Click, clack, click, clack*

Cagalli's heels clicked as she walked down the stone hallway of the prison. After her

meeting with the warden she was feeling a little slimy. He was clearly hitting on her and

she wasn't impressed.

A few more steps and she had arrived at her destination. A small room, similar to an

interrogation room, except it didn't have the one way mirror. The walls were grey and there

was a stainless steel table in the middle of the room, bolted to the floor. A chair was on

either side, they were also bolted to the floor. The room felt kind of dirty to her.

"Thank God I don't have to stay here long." she thought to herself.

She reached in her bag and pulled out the lie detector test she had brought with her. The

judge had required her to do a separate test to make sure the results were accurate. A lie

detector test wasn't a true psychological assessment tool, but it did read some important

psychological signs, so she figured it would be perfect for what she needed it for:

To measure his heart rate, skin temperature, blood pressure and respiration. A lot of people

didn't understand how a lie detector test worked. It picked up the unconscious conflict one

experiences when lying, thus the reason for the heart rate increase and so on and so forth (1).

The door opened and in walked Shinn Asuka. Cagalli made sure to be more careful this

time when picking out questions. She wanted to make sure she got it right this time, after

all her reputation was on the line.

"Mr. Asuka. Are you ready for round two?" She asked as they hooked him up to the lie detector.
