Capturing a Moment
Colin Creevey had never had much success with girls. They all seemed to steer clear of him - they didn't like him, and they thought he was weird.
He didn't blame them really, and it never really bothered him.
That was, until he got to 5th year without ever having had a girlfriend, and other people started to call him strange - they thought he was a loner who did nothing but take photos of everyone.
Slughorn had sat him next to her in Potions that year, and Snape sat her behind him in Defence Against the Dark Arts.
He got to talk to her, and he soon decided that Sophia Miles was the one for him.
It was during one rainy weekend in November that Sophia sauntered into the common room to see Colin and Dennis playing wizard's chess.
' Hi Sophia! ' called Dennis, waving at her brightly.
She smiled and came to sit in an armchair nearby them,' How's it going? ' she asked with a smile.
' I'm winning! ' Dennis told her.
' Aw, come on Colin,' laughed the 15 witch year old, tossing her black hair over one shoulder,' you're not going to let your little brother beat you, are you? '
Colin looked up at her shyly and smiled.
At his smile, she felt her stomach flip over a little and she shook her head before looking back at the chess board. The game was going well in Dennis' favour, and Colin only seemed to be getting worse and worse - which might have something to do with the fact that Colin was entirely too busy stealing glances at his friend.
When the game was over, Dennis announced that he was going to send a letter to he and Colin's parents, leaving the two 5th years alone together.
' So,' Sophia began after a pause,' I haven't seen you with that camera of yours recently - you've not given up photography? '
' No,' answered Colin,' of course not - in fact, I took loads this summer - we went on holiday to Portugal, and it was great. D'you want to see them? '
Sophia replied that she would like to see them, and Colin quickly summoned some of his albums from the dormitory.
As they sat on the sofa, flipping through some of the snaps, Sophia's fingers trailed over the pages. The pictures of the beautiful beaches and the picturesque bays were far removed from the childish snaps from four years ago.
' Colin, some of these are exquisite,' Sophia smiled.
He smiled modestly,' I prefer taking pictures of people to be honest - they tell much more of a story than these landscapes do - you can learn a lot from looking at a picture of someone. '
' What about me? ' asked Sophia,' do you think you could make a good picture out of me? '
He cleared his throat nervously,' I could, but it wouldn't do you justice. A picture's about capturing the moment, and capturing a person, but I couldn't capture you, you know. '
She smiled,' Why ever not? '
He grinned and gestured vaguely at her face,' You've got this lovely dark hair which falls around your shoulders, and you've got these bright eyes which are so deep and so - so -'
She smiled,' Yeah? '
He shook his head and didn't say anything.
' You better not have gone all shy on me,' she laughed.
' I'm sorry,' he said,' it's just - I sound like an idiot, don't I? Sitting here and telling you that you've got lovely eyes and stuff - that's just so cheesy, isn't it? '
She shrugged,' Maybe I like cheesy. '
And as she leaned in towards him and their lips met for the first time, it something no camera could have done justice to.
