if I could just see you
Everything
would be all right
If
I could see you
This
darkness would turn to light

"Storm"
She had always said he was meant for great things, even before she knew of his secrets. When she finally found out the truth, she only grew in her unshaken faith in his ability to do anything to save people.
In the history of their friendship, she had initiated all the kisses, catching him off guard with her small body and soft lips. The one and only time he truly kissed her–without doomsdays events, magical flowers or rocks shattering around them–she smiled sadly, mumbling into his chest,
"You'll leave us all one day, Clark. You'll leave Smallville behind and save the world. And you'll forget about lil old me."
And before he could respond, the spark in her eyes returned and she kissed him back.
The truth was, he was terrified she would leave him one day. As much as she spouted he was a superhero, she seemed to never realize she was destined for great things herself. He had more faith in her abilities than his own, even though he could easily deflect bullets and see through walls.
Her passion and drive for the truth and unquestionable belief in him were traits he never saw in his ex-girlfriend. Their roller coaster relationship had left him wondering if he would end up alone, bitterly hating his powers for keeping him from love. When all the teenage drama and angst finally lifted, he realized he had everything he needed in his parents and Chloe.
Yet, there were so many "what ifs." What if she left him? What if he doesn't grow up enough to find a way to hold onto her? Will she fall in love with a billionaire or another arch nemesis or just a regular Joe Schmoe? Will she remember him?
She would never hold him back from his future; he wonders if he can do the same for her. He's selfish for that, but if it means having her in his life, he thinks he would give up his powers just to have her near.
With Chloe, he has those quiet moments where conversation isn't needed and silence is comfort enough. And when they do speak, there is a ease of relaxation. The similarities are why they are friends, their differences are why they click.
But he knows she'll leave one day. They're both meant for changing the world.
