Well, I thought I'd try my hand at another Castle fic. I've only seen half of season 3, so no spoilers in here. This is a bit daft but what the hell!
I own nothing and I suspect even if I did they wouldn't let me do the writing!
Forfeits
Castle had been watching the elevator for almost half an hour now and tapped his feet against the floor impatiently. He had had no idea the game night would work out so well and couldn't wait to see the result.
Last Night:
'I'm telling you, you cannot beat me. I rule at this game'
'That's bull, Castle, I could take you a-ny-time' Esposito emphasised the last word as he eyed Castle, silently setting the challenge.
'Fine. We'll see. What's the forfeit? Gotta have a forfeit.'
'Forfeit?' Ryan looked suspiciously at Castle and pulled at Esposito's arm. 'Come on man, I'm not liking the sound of this.'
'I'm game,' said Esposito, 'come on Castle, what are your terms?'
'Ok. Let's say… the losers have to come to work tomorrow in an outfit of the winner's choice. How about it?'
Esposito and Ryan glanced at each other before nodding. Ryan let out a long suffering sigh while Esposito squared his shoulders and cracked his neck, mentally preparing himself for the game.
At that moment Beckett came back through from the kitchen to join them and glanced at the board set out on the table.
'Really boys? Is this a suitable game for poker night?' she said, handing out the beers.
'Yup. This is serious though, there are consequences for the losers - want to know what we decided?' Castle attempted an intimidating stare.
Beckett gave him a characteristic eye roll. 'Nope. I'll wipe the floor with you anyway.'
'So we're all agreed? Ok. I call…. Reverend Green, in the kitchen, with the revolver.'
Castle chuckled to himself. Beckett had been so sure she'd win, and so mad when she'd not only lost, but Castle was the winner. He glanced at the elevator for what seemed like the fiftieth time and tried hard not to let anyone see his anticipation for what it really was.
Castle handed her the gaudy shopping bag and started to clear away the beer bottles Ryan and Esposito had left on the table.
'What the hell is this Castle?'
'Let's just say I saw it a while back while I was buying Alexis some college stuff and it made me think of you.'
Beckett eyed him, outwardly furious and inwardly just a little touched that he thought of her at all while out shopping with his daughter.
'It's just – it's not going to be practical is it?' she whined
He waggled his eyebrows and then softened when he saw her discomfort.
'Ok. Just wear it when you arrive tomorrow and I'll let you change before we have to go anywhere. How about that?'
She sighed and shook her head in exasperation. 'Fine. See you tomorrow.'
'Until then Detective'
Castle glanced up again and finally his patience (or lack of it) was rewarded. Beckett stepped out of the elevator and into the bullpen and Castle silently congratulated himself for taking the chance and buying the dress she was currently wearing. Knee length and surprisingly modest, Castle had known it should be hers the moment he had seen the fabric that matched her eyes perfectly.
Beckett gave him a small smile, a rare blush rising on her cheeks when she saw how he was looking at her.
'I have to say Castle, you do have good taste.'
Castle grinned at her and nodded toward the breakroom
'I'm not sure everyone agrees with that'
Beckett craned her neck and her jaw dropped as she saw a clown and a enormous bear walking in their direction. She turned back to Castle and his grin widened.
'Only one winner in Clue, Detective.' He said with a wink.
I toyed with the idea of him making her wear something outrageous as well, but I figure he's sweeter than that so it went a different way!
