John comes back home alter six pm, feeling tired. It's been a hard day in the garage, a lot of cars and a lot of drivers asking for their car to be repaired before the end of the day. But all the tiredness disappears when he turns his key on the lock and lets himself enter the house. That's his favourite moment of the day. To see Mary and his kids in their daily routine. His kids. Plural. Some times he still surprised himself thinking about it. Until half a year ago they were simply John, Mary and Dean. Now they have to add Sammy to the equation. And that's something John couldn't be more happy for.
He closes the door and isn't even a couple of steps into the house that a little Gene Simmons jumps into his arms.
"Daddy! I'm one of the Kiss!"
John laughs with his son enthusiasm before dropping a kiss on him, careful of not to ruin the make up. Who knows how long Mary has been working on it.
"Yeah, it looks like it. I almost confounded you for the real Gene Simmons, Dean-o." Usually, John would mess with his kid's hair, but now Dean wears it all greased and brushed back. "Where are your mum and your brother?"
"In Sammy's room. Mum is finishing to dress him."
"Dress him, huh? Let's see it then."
Dean nods enthusiastically. While they go up the stairs, John notices the rest of the disguise. Black trousers and a black t-shirt with a white skull painted, no doubt, also by his wife. He shocks his head amused. Only his four year old son would get so exited to be dressed as a rock icon from the 70's.
When they enter Sammy's room, Mary is finishing to paint some whiskers on the toddler, and moves aside to see the global effect.
"Perfect. Sammy, you're the most beautiful kitten I've ever seen." she says, satisfied.
John lets Dean on the floor and moves to kiss his wife and his other son. "how did you come up in disguising Dean as Gene Simmons?" he asks, grining widely.
Mary laughs. "Actually, it's you who's always playing that music in the Impala. Don't complain about your son's musical tastes."
John also laughs. "I'm not complaining. I'm educating him in music."
"Yeah, of course you are."
The banter gets interrupted when Mary notices someone picking her sleeve.
"Mooooooooooommy, let's gooooo."
Mary nods and picks up Sam. "Yeah sweetie, let's go." She looks at John. "Are you sure you don't wanna come?"
"Nah, I prefer the aftermath, when I'm eating the sweeties you collect."
Mary nods. "Alright. See you in a while then."
John drops a kiss on each one of them. "Have fun."
He looks as they leave the house and smiles inwardly. He couldn't be more happy. His life is perfect.
But perfection ends up two days after that.
THE END
