You Matter

A sigh was heard through the phone.

"Blaine, there is something I want to tell you." Kurt said. Blaine stopped breathing for a moment- their re-established communication still felt so fragile. He couldn't stop worrying that Kurt changed his mind about wanting to continue to talk to one another.

"Yeah?" he replied, trying to hide his hesitancy.

"I am going to tell you something and I want you to listen. Don't laugh at me." Kurt requested.

Well, that wasn't what Blaine dreaded.

"O... kay. Sure, what is it?"

"You matter." Kurt said simply.

Blaine nearly choked on his own saliva. Of course he knows that phrase from when Burt had the sex talk with Kurt. It took Kurt months before he finally came around and told Blaine about the conversation in detail. Eventually it turned into a joke- Kurt reminding Blaine that he actually had the nerve to request his best friend's dad to give his best friend the sex talk.

He cleared his throat.

"Sorry, what?"

"Remember the first time we had sex?" Kurt asked.

"Yes." Blaine answered, biting back a 'Of course, I do.'

"We did that because we cared deeply and trusted each other. And because we genuinely wanted to share that between us, right?"

Blaine got a lump in his throat. "Yeah..." he said a little too croaky.

"When you had that one night stand, you didn't care about the guy. You were lonely and feeling bad about yourself." Kurt stated, not asked.

When there was just silence and breathing, Kurt continued. "I remember thinking about what my dad told me before and after we did it. What made what we did worthwhile and amazing was that we really loved one another. It was something really special."

"Kurt, I am so sor-" Blaine started.

"Stop, Blaine," Kurt interrupted, "I am not talking to you as a betrayed ex boyfriend right now. Right now I am speaking to you as someone who loves you very much and believes you are worth more than sometimes you realize you do."

"Kurt..." Blaine said, at loss of words.

"So please," Kurt continued, "don't throw yourself around like you don't matter. You do. So much. You matter so much to me. Whether or not you are dating or sleeping with anyone is not my business since we are not boyfriends now, but please don't hurt yourself like that again."

Blaine let out a sob. For a moment that felt a little too long, that was the only sound they were hearing.

"Thank you." Blaine finally said. "So much, Kurt."

"I love you, Blaine."

"I love you, too."
