When Night Time Comes
Authors note: This is my first Andromeda fanfic so I'm still trying to work out the kinks. Be kind! I won't add any more unless people say they want me to (which is subtle for "please, I need attention, review!"). Flames are used for shishcabobs and smores next time it's my night to cook and I really *really* want constructive criticism.
On with the fic!
Tyr and Dylan stood in command silently running the normal system checks when holographic Andromeda informed them of an incoming long range-transmission. "Patch it through," Dylan ordered with a nod of his head.
The face of a man appeared. His olive toned face would have seemed intimidating were it not fractured by crow's feet from a lifetime of laughter. In his eyes was an impassive look. "Tyr Anasazi," the older man started, "I must speak with you right away. It's very important business."
Tyr nodded his acknowledgment. "Patch it through to my quarters," he commanded Andromeda and turned to leave when the man's image disappeared.
"That important business wouldn't have anything to with something illegal, would it Tyr," the captain said to his weapons officer's retreating back.
"Of course not," the strongman said over his shoulder.
In his quarters, Tyr engaged privacy mode and called the message to the screen. When he saw the room was empty of anyone besides the man he needed to speak with, the aged man on the screen dropped his mask of hardness to let the worry flow freely through his expression.
"Tyr, it's Kit. Her condition has worsened considerably."
"Condition?" Tyr remained impassive.
"You don't know? She was born with an illness that weakened her lungs."
"There's surgery for that sort of thing."
"She had it when she was little and it was supposed to fix the problem for life but she's regressed in the past few years to worse than before. She needs the surgery again but the stubborn thing won't get it."
"And why have you called me," Tyr was losing his patience, "this sounds like something her father should deal with."
The old man's face grew long with realization. "She didn't tell you. That's why you weren't there." He was talking more to himself than the younger man.
"Tell me," Tyr said in a deadly calm voice. He had a bad feeling about what was going to be said next.
"I'm sorry. She promised me she would tell you herself," he took a deep breath. "It's Nero. He died about six months ago."
Tyr let his surprise and dread show for a second before coving it up. "How?"
"He was knifed in the stomach defending some children from a group of Dragons. Kit and Nik were with him."
"How have they been doing?"
"Very well. Kit took over the business, she's taking good care of Nik, she's graduating from college in a few months, Nik is on the honor roll at school, but Kit refuses to take care of herself in the health sense."
"I will arrive as soon as I can. Is that all?"
"Yes."
"Thank you, Timothy. End transmission."
Ok, I know it wasn't the best fist chapter so you'll get the second chapter free of charge. But please review if you want more than that!
