A/N: Just going through some stuff I haven't posted on here yet. This one is really short. Just a little family promt.
A few months after the war was over, most of the group longed for home. Longed for the time of peace to settle into their bones. Toph went home to her parents who missed her dearly. Suki went to Kyoshi island. And Aang… didn't have anywhere to call home. That was the life of an Air nomad, but in his day at least there were temples to go to and rest at. All the temples were now barren and half destroyed. Katara and Sokka wanted to go home to the southern watertribe, Aang happy to accompany them when invited. The trip to the south took longer than expected, but when they finally did arrive to the little settlement the siblings called home, they were greeted with cheers; a hero's welcome. Everyone in the village gathered around Appa and gawked, unbelieving that the Avatar was back in their midst, fully realized, as well as their only waterbender who was now a master, and their bravest warrior, stronger than ever. The first to actually greet them was Hakoda, Katara and Sokka running into his arms.
"Dad!" Sokka yelled as they both ran into him, nearly knocking him down.
"Sokka, Katara. I am so glad you are home again…" He said and held them both very close, so happy that they all made it out of this war safely and together.
It was a very emotional moment that Aang didn't want to interrupt, so he stood awkwardly by Appa, longing inside for a chance to see Monk Gyatso again, the only father figure he ever had. Kanna came up to the pair next, Hakoda handing his children off to his mother. She hugged them both and smiled at them.
"I trust you had a safe trip home? You've been gone for so long… look at how much you two have grown…" She said and looked between the pair, then her eyes fell onto Aang in the background.
"And you've brought the Avatar?" She asked, a little surprised.
As if on cue, Aang came over to their little family reunion.
"He's not just the Avatar, GranGran, he's my boyfriend too." She said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Hello…" He said awkwardly as Hakoda came up to him, staring him down. It made Aang sweat and become nervous. Hakoda was a big man. A big, strong, man. He looked down into Aang's eyes with a cold stare until he suddenly smiled and grabbed his shoulders.
"She really picked the best of the best." Aang smiled nervously and bowed to him.
"Thank you." He said and bowed to him, unsure of how to take his compliment.
"Katara, may I have a word with you?" Kanna said and pulled her aside, out of the crowd.
"GranGran, what's wrong?" Katara asked.
"When I said that your destiny and his destiny were intertwined , you didn't have to take it so literally."
"Gran, I really like him. We've been through so much together, things you can't even imagine! He's my best friend. He's my other half…"
"You are so young Katara… much too young to be speaking like this. Must I have a certain special talk with you again?"
Katara was shocked and shook her head.
"No! It's not like that! We're not… together like that."
"But he is the one courting you. Avatar or not, you are allowed to say no."
"Gran! Shh!"
"I'm just saying." She paused and smiled, taking Katara's cheek in her hand. "I am proud of the young woman you have become, and therefore I respect your choices."
"Thank you."
The two walked back to where the people were surrounding Aang and Sokka, Sokka retelling the final battle with much enthusiasm and Aang filling in the empty spots. Kanna walked up to Aang and bowed to him.
"Take care of our little waterbender."
"I will, thank you GranGran."
Katara smiled and walked up to him, giving him a kiss in front of everyone. Everyone made a small choir of 'ohh' and 'aww', all except Sokka of course, who looked away in disgust.
