The One You Love
By: Quills
Summary: Takes place during the scene in the ally during Dead Things. Buffy has already started pounding Spike and most of the dialogue has already been exchanged.
Author's Note: The story is the POV's of Spike vs. William. They are labeled in the story, but it may be hard to understand.
She let me see something that night. No doubt it was already there, but it's chains were loosened that night. She starred at me when she wasn't looking. Her body was beating, heart pounding, but her mind must have froze while I looked into her eyes and saw what I had been searching for.
At that moment she didn't hate me. Spike, of course, was tasting the blood that she had longed for. I was safe beneath the fists and tears that clouded her vision. She would never be his girl. We don't have a soul. She screamed these words, and through the crumbling walls inside of me spread relief. Relief that she wasn't his girl. Relief that she was disgusted with herself, with him.
As I looked at her, I saw her. I saw hating her self, hating me, hating the world itself. In her depths she wished he would come to her, come save her. But all William could mutter was a broken 'you always hurt the one you love.'
In those words he apologized for her, for spike, for himself, for the world.
