set during Hammer Of The Gods, just after Dean gets out of the Impala but before Gabriel shows up to bamf with Lucifer.

can anyone tell I have a lot of feelings about Gabriel

disclaimer: don't own. If I did, Balthazar and Gabriel would get more screen-time, Cas would be back, and Sam would have an epic bromance with Gabriel. But alas, I don't own Supernatural. That joy is reserved for Carver Edlund.

"I can't kill my brother."

"Can't or won't?"

Gabriel swallowed, too shocked to reply.

"That's what I thought."

Tears of frustration—yes, frustration—threatened their descent down Gabriel's face as he slammed his fist into a nearby wall. He barely felt it, the bricks crumbling pathetically, and he kicked the rubble, wanting to feel something. How the fuck could Dean say that? If worst came to worst, Dean may well have found himself in the exact same position. Of course, Gabriel and Lucifer weren't emotionally, erotically co-dependent, but those were just words, right? Lucifer was still his brother, whether he liked it or not.

Gabriel dropped to his knees, drove his hand down hard onto the concrete, crying out with a mixture of pain and relief as his outer two fingers gave protest. His chest hurt, something he was reluctant to call heartache but it wasn't the same kind of pain that was making his throat block up, definitely not the same kind of pain his hand was complaining of. It must have been when the fake blade entered his body. Yeah. That must be it.

Get a grip, you idiot. You're a fucking archangel. Gabriel mentally snarled at himself.

But so was Lucifer, and given that the humans didn't have a chance without Gabriel's help, what choice did he have?

And those idiots called themselves 'Team Free Will'.
