Annoyingly Endearing

"…there is a man who sticks closer than a brother." Psalm 18:24b
He looks at him thoughtfully.
Mesmerized by the glow of the light that is visible through his flawless synthetic dark skin, he continues to stare. And he doesn't realize he was staring at all (honest!) until he notices the flutter of thick black lashes set against a smooth brown hue. He quickly recovers his bearings and barks gruffly something unflattering and insulting (only slightly so) to cover up the fact that he had indeed been gazing at his partner with a fondness that he couldn't quite place.
Large blue eyes flash at him and he wonders at how innocent they look and immediately crushes the urge to reach out and pinch his partner's cheek.
The DRN assigned to him raises his perfectly shaped eyebrow and looks at him suspiciously. "Are you checking me out John?"
And there it is again. That warm fuzzy feeling rearing its ugly head at the way his name comes out of that (blasted) DRN that is sitting on the passenger seat of his car.
That thing, that robot. That is not a thing. That isn't a robot. A DRN he is always corrected. A DRN specifically chosen for him. To be with him. To be his partner.
He can't help but sputter at his DRN's frankness. His DRN who insists that he has a name and pouts his perfectly molded mouth because he had initially resisted calling him by it.
Whose same mouth was now smirking at having successfully ruffled his feathers…yet again.
And he wonders wonders wonders at this lifeless being who manages to make him run at his pace.
And it's only been days, really, he reminds himself. Days.
But as another day passes and his eyes widen in surprise as his perfectly crafted partner unabashedly dips his perfectly shaped digit into his cup of coffee, he hopes and prays that he hasn't figured out yet that he has him wrapped around his all too perfect little finger.
Later that day, he recalls, his heart (what the hell?!) had literally had a mini attack (at least that's what it had felt like) and couple that with a discomfiting surge of fear, was enough to cause him to blink stupidly for a few seconds at the ugly ugly tear above his partner's handsome head.
And he thinks (he doesn't want to face the truth), as he drives from the crime scene, that he's starting to forget what it was like to be without Dorian (that annoying ass!). So when Dorian tells him that he doesn't want to die, he is ashamed to admit that he is elated. Because there is something about this partner of his that makes him want to move forward. And he knows (although he cannot for the life of him figure out why, but just that he does) he can move forward with him by his side. As long as Dorian will always be by his side. And as his DRN looks out of the window, he cannot help but take a lingering thoughtfully look at his partner before focusing his eyes on the road ahead.
Dorian being ever so annoying is extremely impossible to dislike. Helpful constructive criticism is welcome although positive reviews will be greatly appreciated too! ^_^
