Finn's laughter filled the whole car as we were riding to drop me off at Bristol. We spent the weekend in London visiting our parents and catching up with each other's stories. I was telling him about one cheeky night at a club, that couldn't be talked about in front of Mum and Dad.
"Yeah, and that's what happened. You should come to visit; there are some amazing girls at Bristol." I told him. I missed my brother and our cheeky pranks.
"That'd be awesome, mate." He took his eyes off the road to look at me. We grinned. Laughing, I looked forward.
"Bloody hell! Finn, watch out!" The car ahead had stopped and we almost crashed into it.
Finn hit the brakes and the car spun. We fell off the road and the car tumbled down the hill. We seemed to fall forever. And when we stopped we were upside down.
My head was spinning, I'm so dizzy. I tried to free myself of the seat belt but the buckle didn't work. I think my leg was bleeding. I looked at my brother.
Finn had a huge gash in his forehead and his eyes were closed.
"FINN! Can you hear me?!" I shouted. I was scared to touch him in case I just make it worse. "FINNY!"
He didn't even budge. Relax Jack, maybe he just fainted. My phone! I quickly dialed 9-9-9.
"Hello? My car crashed on the M4 and my brother in unconscious. Please help!" I heard my voice breaking. Hot tears were streaming down my face.
The person on the other side of the line said something that I didn't hear.
Deep breath. Help was coming.
"Finn! FINNY!" Panic suddenly took over me. "Finny! Don't leave! Hang on. Hang the fuck on! Help is coming!" I tried freeing myself again. Didn't work. I tried breaking the window but the only result was a bloody hand.
I started screaming uncontrollably.
"FINN! Where are you?!" I couldn't see my brother anymore. The more I screamed the dizzier I got. "No! I can't leave Finn!" I whispered to myself. But unconsciousness took me anyways.
"FINN! Where's my brother?!" I woke up screaming. My vision was blurred with tears.
"Jack, calm down." A woman told me.
"Where am I?"
"At the hospital, your parents have only been contacted half hour ago. They are on their way."
"And my brother? Where is him?" I looked around the room; he wasn't anywhere to be seen. The nurse looked at the floor. "Where. Is. Finn?!" I shouted at her.
"I'm sorry Jack, your brother... Your brother hit his head when the car fell off the road." She looked at me wondering if she would need to say the actual words out loud.
That wasn't necessary. I understood it completely. I didn't have a twin brother anymore. The person who knew me the best, the only person who knew all my secrets. My BEST friend. My brother...
I looked up at the nurse again. She must have thought I had either gone insane or not understood it.
"Jack, your brother didn't make it."
"Finn, Finn, the better twin..." I hit the bed with my hand. "He looks like Jack, Jack looks like him." I sang slowly. The nurse gave me a strange look and left me to mourn alone. "What am I going to do without you Finny?"
I started to remember... When we were littler... Growing up together... Last year flashed through my mind, Rome, Ibiza, Thailand, the gatherings, the videos... Everything I'd done I'd done with him...
My gap year had ended, and so had the best person in it.
