Author's Note: As some of you may know, I have already uploaded this poem once before.  Well, this is the new version, with some changes.  (Mainly, it's just longer and the stanzas are in a different order.)  Anyway, this is a poem that I wrote that reminded me of the characters on Higher Ground, or, more precisely, their situation. Please review!

"The Lost"

Forget all you know and all you've seen

They aren't worth a thing here

Where the lost remember the world from which they were thrown

A voice is heard and heads turn

A bright flicker of hope, a soft goodbye

Quiet returns as the world turns its back

Shadows lurk as the cold drops

Forget all you know and all you've felt

They aren't worth a thing here

Where the lost hide beneath sour words so coldly spat

Ignoring the fear as the loneliness sinks in.

Waiting for the world to remember,

The silence so loud it is deafening,

They are hoping to be found

Forget all you know and all you've lived

They aren't worth a thing here

Where solitude scorches like a searing fire

A swig of silence tastes caustic like poison

Cutting through thoughts like glass

Hope dissolves when shadows and silence remain

They long for another life, another chance, another day

Forget all you know and all you've heard

They aren't worth a thing here

Where the lost wait in silence so cold

Forgotten as they fall between the cracks

A tear falls as eyes shift away

They whisper prayers into the darkness

For there is no room for hope throughout the dismay
