Heroes of the Sky

Ch. 1: The Beach

Meteor paced up and down. This is my big day, he thought. The day I join the guild! The Froslass Clan was a highly respectable guild in Sandcliff town. Meteor had grown up hearing odd rumors about the guild. He shook those thoughts away, and advanced forward. Almost suddenly, a husky voice sprang up from beneath him.

"Pokémon detected! Pokémon detected! It's a Vulpix! It's a Vulpix! It's a- huh? The Vulpix has gone!" Another voice sprang up, more loudly.

"WELL GET GOING, YOU IDIOT! WE WON'T BE SEEING MUCH OF THAT MYSTERY VUPLIX ANYMORE, WILL WE?" What they did not know was that Meteor was standing right before their foot grate, and he ran away at the loud voice. The run turned into a trot, and then a steady pace. Meteor sighed. He could never seem to have the courage to stay there; the loud voice still surprises him. He sat down on the beach sand, and watched the evening Krabby blow bubbles. He took out his lucky charm, a little chip of stone with odd markings on it.

"I guess all I've got left is this. It's the one thing that keeps me going. Looking at it, it inspires me and makes me want to adventure, and explore new places. My goal is to discover what it is, and it's importance!... What beautiful bubbles…" Meteor went silent after this, his eyes taking everything in. When it was getting dark, he was about to head home when something caught his eye. He walked more cautiously to investigate, and realization dawned over him. It was a Pokémon, collapsed on the sand! It did not look like it would last much longer. Quickly, he found an Oran berry, and shoved it into the Pokémon's mouth. The Pokémon stirred groggily, and pulled itself upright.

"Where am I? Wha' happened?" Meteor sighed, that was the exact symptom of amnesia. He began to speak.

"To whomever you are, you are located at the edge of Sandcliff town, or what I like to call Bubble Beach. I found you here collapsed and in bad condition, so I patched you up. So now can you answer my questio-"

"What are you? Do you have a name? Are you really talking?" Meteor shook his head sadly at the Pokémon.

"I guess you have to say more than one question at a time, huh? And that's a really bad way to ask a Pokémon their name. I am a Vulpix, and my name is Meteor. As for the last question, you can talk too, right? And you're a Pokémon, so it doesn't make much of a difference…" The Pokémon scanned herself quickly. It's true! I really am a Pokémon! When did this happen? Oh, what am I to do… The Pokémon fussed over herself, scanning from head to toe. Meteor watched, curious what this Pokémon would do. He grinned.

"You are pretty weird for an Eevee. But from way you seem so helpless, you just can't be one of those bad Pokémon I've heard about. What's your name?" My name, what's my name? The Eevee thought.

"Uh, it's… Angel! Right, I'm Angel the Eevee. Can you tell me what happened? I was definitely a human before, and all I remember is this flash of light…" Meteor was too busy to answer. Quick as lightning, two Sneasel dashed past Angel and knocked Meteor over, snatching something with them. One lagged behind and called back to him,

"Are you afraid to take it back from me? You're such a Whismur!" The other one stuck his tongue out at them. Angel bristled with anger. She turned to Meteor.

"Well, are you a Whismur or not? Come on! If we team up together, we can knock those brats out and get your treasure back! I think they headed over into that cave!" Angel tugged at Meteor's fur, and dragged him along into the cave.
