Experimental writing. Also slightly unedited because Zephyr has the exact opposite of free time these days, but really wanted to post something tonight. This will have to be edited later, if at all.
:( Publishing a decent length RWBY story is still a goal of mine though.
Anyway, all of my RWBY fics so far take place in late volume 1 or early volume 2. Why? Because why not? I've only written fluff so far, lol.
"-so if you add four to do to this side of the equation, it will undo itself after you multiply both sides by the time of-"
Ruby groaned loudly, wondering how much longer she had before her brain started dribbling out of her ears. And if Weiss was going to be mad if any melted brain slush got on her white clothes.
"-solve for Chrono's time without any additional steps," Weiss concluded, pencil coming to a stop. "It's easy."
"For you, maybe," the other girl whined. "I don't have a mind for math."
"Because you're not trying hard enough!" Weiss protested.
"I'm trying as hard as I can!"
"You weren't even listening when I explained how to solve the problem," Weiss accused in response. "Were you?"
Ruby gulped. "Kinda..."
"Don't lie to me, Ruby Rose. I saw you drooling just a second ago."
That was when the two encountered the first problem of working in the library, as opposed to their team's dorm room. "That's what you get for working with the ice queen," a silver haired boy, traversing the shelves behind Weiss's back, muttered beneath his breath.
For some reason, it didn't seem like he'd expected Weiss to overhear. He disappeared around the corner with a noticeably quicker step than he'd started out with as she complained,"Why does everyone call me that?"
"Well, you are kind of – " seeing the look Weiss shot at her, Ruby finished with a squeak " – bossy."
"I'm not bossy," Weiss replied with a somewhat forced calmness. "I'm just trying to help you get work done. It's your fault for being so inefficient."
"You are bossy!" Ruby protested automatically. Weiss made an annoyed "humph!" sound in response, like she didn't particularly agree.
Okay, Weiss's insult probably hadn't been necessary and Ruby wished she hadn't snapped back so quickly... but she could turn this around!
"But that's just your way of trying to help," she added, smoothing things over with an extra wide smile that Weiss was sure to notice.
It hurt the corners of her mouth, a little bit, but Weiss had just had the corners of her pride hurt. Even if Ruby hadn't been the one to do it, it seemed like a fair exchange.
But, hey. What better way to let Weiss know she was appreciated than to outright tell her?
"I don't think you're that much like snow queen. Maybe more like a... snow angel!"
"E-excuse me?"
"You're..." Ruby paused for a moment, contemplating the way Weiss stuck her nose to the air and the dusty blush spreading across her cheeks before continuing. "...Not really used to compliments, are you?"
She made a mental note to compliment Weiss a lot more often from that day on.
