Runaway

AlwaysPadfoot

Narcissa had made a life-changing decision.

It was a decision that would mean that she would never be able to come back to the room she was stood in. It was a decision that would mean she would never be able to come back home — never be able to see her family again. Because tomorrow Bellatrix and Rodolphus were supposed to supposed to be wed, and her and Lucius in three months time, but she had just made a decision that meant that neither of those weddings would take place.

It had all been arranged; contracts would be signed on the day — well, they would have been.

Narcissa waved her wand, the clothes she wanted to keep folding neatly in mid-air and then packing themselves neatly into her trunk. It was odd to be packing up the room she'd grown up in. Looking around from the pale pink sheets of her bed to the now cleared out makeup table, Narcissa's eyes fell on the old music box on the windowsill. She remembered waking up from nightmares as a child, winding up the box and letting it work it's magic to help her back to sleep. She would not leave it here. Wrapping it carefully inside a blanket, Narcissa placed it alongside her clothes in her trunk.

She checked her watch. Rodolphus and her would be meeting in the library downstairs soon; they would be gone before the sun started to rise in the early morning.

For a long while, Narcissa stared at her reflection in the mirror.

"You're being ridiculous, Narcissa," she whispered.

If Andromeda hadn't run off with her Muggleborn boyfriend, Narcissa knew her sister would be reading her the riot act right now.

Honestly, Cissy were you born stupid or did you take lessons. You're being stupid, and naive, and heartless, and what happens if—

Narcissa shook her head, dispelling all her worries, her fears. After all, she'd made her decision. Why was she even questioning this? Her and Rodolphus were in love; they'd made a pact to leave. It was time to say goodbye to the life she had.

She was leaving.
