I've got ONE thing to say about the ending of Trollhunters Season 3: No. No. NO! The lore for Merlin is that he is the GREATEST wizard in the WORLD! So why?! Why couldn't he undo the effects of the potion Jim bathed in?! WHY?! This is the first time I've EVER been disappointed in an ending to a TV series! I could go on for HOURS on end about how bad the ending to Trollhunters Season 3 was! I could write an entire chapter on Fanfiction about WHY the ending was the most bullcrap piece of dump I've ever seen! I don't mind Jim turning into a half troll half human! But the fact that Merlin states that he HIMSELF CANNOT UNDO the effects of the potion is out of character for the LORE itself! I don't mind when writers drift away from the source material! But it has to be well executed and given a good reason! Take Barbara Gordon from the LEGO Batman Movie as an example. In Batman lore, Barbara Gordon is FORBIDDEN by Commissioner Gordon from joining the police force! Yet in the LEGO Batman Movie, James Gordon passes the mantle to Barbara Gordon! They removed the characteristic of Merlin being the greatest wizard in the world and replaced it with a dumb mutt that doesn't know how to undo a spell that the GREATEST WIZARD IN THE WORLD could undo! Jim should've turned BACK into a human after the big finale between Gunmar and Morgana! Here's the GOOD ending for everyone! Enjoy!
Barbara and Merlin stood atop the edge of the cliff overlooking Arcadia. Behind them, they heard footsteps. They turned around and saw Jim, Claire, and Toby approaching.
"I am forever in your debt, Trollhunter," Merlin said.
"Then perhaps you can find a way to undo this potion," Jim said calmly.
"It's like I said; the effects of the potion are irreversible," Merlin said.
"No they're not!" Jim said.
"He's right," Claire said, "There's ALWAYS another way. If there is a way to CHANGE him then there is a way to change him BACK!" Merlin began to process the thought.
"I've read books in the Trollmarket Library about you and they say that you're the greatest wizard in the world," Jim said, "You should be able to undo the effect!"
"Now that I think about it…" Merlin said as he scratched his beard, "there may be a way."
"What're your thoughts?" Toby asked.
"There's an ancient library somewhere in the center of the earth," Merlin said, "called Tular. There is a mystical book there called the Book of Gyran; written by my father Tasho."
"Your father?" Claire said.
"My father is older than time itself. He knew everything," Merlin said as he approached Claire.
"So… you can take us there?" Claire asked, starting to get filled with hope.
"Theoretically," Merlin said, "but there's a problem."
"What's that?" Jim asked.
"I hear that Ruan Knights, the essences of Morgana's mother, Syria, are guarding the library," Merlin said, "it would be like going to hell and back."
"That's a risk we're willing to take, right Jim?" Claire said. Jim looked at her and nodded.
"Very well," Merlin said, "follow me." With that, they all departed for Tular.
