I smiled in awe at the large pink tinted diamond engagement ring resting on my finger. It sparkled as I moved my hand, viewing it from as many different angles as possible. Eventually I tore my eyes away from it and looked up at the man standing next to me. When I met his eyes my smile widened to a grin, he was looking at me with an expression of love and it made my knees go week.
I could hardly believe, even after all these weeks that Patrick Jane was looking at me like that openly. He loved me, the thought took my breath away for a moment. I realized that I was still meeting his intense gaze, not that he'd made any move to look away. I tried to focus on what I was supposed to be doing. Right, trying to catch a killer. Regretfully I tore my eyes away from him so I could concentrate.
"It's perfect baby. I love it, thank you," I said, laying the sweetness on thick.
Almost there, I thought to myself as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
He looked at me mischievously and pulled my closer, taking my face within his hands softly and kissing me. Passionately. Much more passionately than I'd expected. It took a second before I returned the kiss with equal desire, any thought that had crossed my mind momentarily gone. This felt normal, even though we were just pretending to be engaged this was real. There were only so many moments during the day where we could touch each other, work made sure of that.
Wait… work. I broke the kiss quickly, panting slightly. Jane didn't seem to like the loss of contact but didn't say anything.
I could tell there was a blush creeping up my face and I cleared my throat. I couldn't believe I'd just kissed Jane like that right in front of someone and on the job.
"We'll take it," I said embarrassedly.
The man smiled as if he was used to this sort of behavior and I stood back as Jane paid for it.
The moment we left the store I gave Jane a glare.
"Dammit Jane, I told you that I wanted to keep our relationship to ourselves for now and then you go and kiss me like that while we're working?" I said annoyed.
Jane merely grinned, making feel both like hitting him and kissing him.
He took a step closer to me and I didn't move away, his lips moved up to my ear and I closed my eyes. Just having him this close to me made me forget any argument I had.
"Come on Lisbon, it's not like anyone from work saw us, we were undercover. Besides, you didn't seem to mind when it was happening," his voice was husky and It took all I had not to grab him right there, push him against a wall and attack his mouth with mine.
I looked towards the car where Cho was watching us and took a hasty step away from him, with one last warning glare I started walking towards the car. Jane followed in suit with an annoying smile on his face. He might have won this time but he was going to pay tonight.
