Summary: Sometimes, one spontaneous act can become a lot more.
"Is this seat taken?" Olivia asked as she sauntered to Alex's preferred spot at the bar.
"Go ahead." She said with an exaggerated wave of her arm.
"I can't believe they didn't convict him." Olivia said gloomily. She sat down next to her and immediately ordered a beer. "His DNA was all over her."
"You're telling me." Alex said with a snort. She stared into her glass, averting Olivia's gaze.
"How many have you had?" Olivia asked softly.
"A few." Alex admitted reluctantly. Olivia nodded, but didn't press the matter. They sat in silence for a few moments, each paying a lot more attention to their drinks than they usually would.
Eventually Olivia broke the silence. "Want a ride home?" Alex considered for a moment before answering.
"I suppose." She said with a sigh. She stood up, Olivia walking closely behind in case she stumbled. Alex didn't fail t notice.
"I'm not drunk, Olivia, just... buzzed." Olivia accepted this silently.
"You're quiet." Alex noted. Olivia sighed.
"This just isn't the time to talk."
They got in Olivia's car and again sat in deafening silence. Eventually they got to Alex's home.
"Want to come in?" Alex asked quietly. Olivia looked surprised, but accepted the offer and walked in with her.
"You know, Alex, there's times when I really worry about you." Olivia admitted.
"I'm fine." Alex said dismissively.
"You almost weren't when you went into witness protection." Oliva said. Alex made to interrupt but Olivia held up a hand to silence her. "I almost lost you, and I don't want to come close to that ever again."
The words struck a chord with Alex. She felt an array of emotions, and they all compelled her to one spontaneous act.
She leaned forward and captured Olivia's lips with her own. Olivia gasped and Alex took the opportunity to deepen the kiss. Eventually Olivia broke away, breathing heavily.
"What was that for?" Olivia panted.
"Because I felt like it." Alex said with a shrug.
"Why did you kiss me?" Olivia asked again.
"Because I love you." Alex murmured. She pressed herself against Olivia and kissed her again.
"I love you too." Olivia said against her lips.
They melted into the warm kiss, the gentle caress; the human contact and comfort to be found was something akin to a warm bath after a winter day. They walked to the bedroom and gently undressed each other.
The next morning, they woke cuddled together, glowing from the comfort they found in each other.
