The Queens Revenge

The mask was forged by a dark wizard, for a angered queen who was going to give it to a lovely fair maiden who was secretly sleeping with the king. Since mask was a gift for the maiden, she was to wear to the masquerade ball.

The maiden lived deep within the woods, when she left the castle earlier that evening she was given a invitation from a servant to attend a ball. She believed it was secretly given to her by the king. She had not intended to go to the ball, for that she had nothing to wear.

Then there was a knock on the door, and when she opened it. Her gaze fell upon a pink box with a gold and purple bow, which was lying on her doorstep. She leaned further out the doorway, and saw no one going down the path. She grabbed the package and brought it inside, when she opened it there was a costume complete with a mask and gown. The maiden put on the costume, and later left her cottage.

When she was outside she walked down the moonlit path. She looked down at the mask, the moon glistening on the mask which rested with in her grip. She then suddenly felt compelled to put on the mask. When she put on the mask, out of nowhere she was wracked with excruciating pain, her muscles suddenly stiffening.

Roots began to sprout from her toes, and bury deep within the ground. Her fingers lengthening and formed into long branches. She couldn't even scream, for that everything was so stiff. Then she felt her body grow taller. Her dress shredding as she watched her legs darkening, and continued higher upon her body.

Her skin was becoming rougher as her body began to form in the way of a tree. Her arms were forced to raise above her head as the branches continued to grow. She lifted her face up towards the moon, her face began to harden as she screamed in pure agony. The mask suddenly fell off, as if its work was done, and landing on the ground where her feet once were. The maidens long hair grew into vines, which wrapped themselves around her body and trunk. The vines intertwined in and around the mask, making it almost disappear.

The last thing she heard before everything went completely silent, was the eerie laughter from a woman, the whinny of a horse, and the thunder of hooves.
