Hatred and Sorrow

Leo Valdez hated himself. For moving on after Hazel died. For not treasuring the moments he had with her before she sacrificed herself, yet, one more time. How could he? It was almost as if he was a monster himself, trying to kill all of his beloved memories. First his mother, now this. It was as if the fates had deliberately had her sacrifice her life to have him suffer. Yet, he tried to trick everyone, disobey, by marrying somebody else.

Liesel. Her golden hair and blue eyes sparkled in the sun as she walked. She was also very generous, not pushing Leo too far into his past. Leo loved her, or at least he thought he did, until he realized that she was not Hazel.

Hazel had fallen for Leo for his true personality. Liesel, on the other hand, seemed to have married him for his humor. The more Leo suffered, the funnier he became, the more broken he truly was inside.

Still, Leo continued on with his life. He was constantly thinking about Hazel, trying to push that thought away from himself. Leo even tried doing what he was best at. Running. He and Liesel ran away to London. They built a life there, segmented themselves with the present. Then, she came.

Vita. She was in a box, when they had picked her up from the street. Suddenly, all of Leo's thoughts of Hazel reappeared. He spent his days moping in secret and looking at a mirror in shame. Sometimes, he would stare at his eyes. Through the brown flecks of false hope though, he always found emptiness. Still, nobody seemed to notice. Life went on, and Leo joked more and more until he couldn't stand it anymore.

It was when Vita was 7 that Leo decided to kill himself. His longing for Hazel was too much for him to control. One day, he was driving Vita to an icecream shop. In one turn, he stared at her eyes. Suddenly, every memory he had been trying to hide came back back to him. Leo saw all of the Giants, Gaea, even Hazel as she sacrificed her life for the rest of them.

Guilt surged through his veins. Leo couldn't handle the pain. He needed to die. He needed to meet her. Hazel.

One year later, Liesel and Leo were driving. Leo had unsuccessfully tried to kill himself before, yet the Fates still protected him. He looked at the woman beside him. What if? Suddenly, the car veered across the road. Pebbles raced through the ground. Inevitable chaos emerged. Leo heard Liesel screaming at him, tears in her eyes, betrayed. Leo, on the other hand, smiled and closed his eyes.

Suddenly, Leo felt pain, guilt, emotionless. He felt the life being sucked out of him. Still, unlike any of the others who have died, he didn't regret his death. He welcomed it. And, soon enough, Leo crept a smile on his face, waiting for his long-waited reunion with his true love.

I know... Very depressing.

Please review on your thoughts on this story.

It is kind of a crossover with my other story The Life Robber.

Leo and Hazel belong to Riordon.
