It was night time, and it was late. The neighborhood was quiet, the nightlamps faintly illuminating the streets. I'd just gotten home from a long day at my job having little time to myself. I decided to get ready for bed, for what little time I had to sleep. I put on my favorite pajamas, and crawled under the covers trying my best to fall asleep.
Just as I finally thought I could fall asleep, the doorbell rang pulling me from my slumber. Shuffling in the sheets I gave my best attempts to ignore the sound. It rang again. A few moments later, it rang again. And again. And again. Each time, desperately trying to tune it out, before eventually removing the covers, and stepping out of the bedroom. Groggy and still tired, somehow I managed to get to the front door, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
I open the expecting to find someone who maybe got the wrong house, or wanted to sell something. Surprisingly, no one as there. I took a step out the door to check if I couldn't see anybody, only to almost trip over a covered basket in the process. It was just sitting on the front porch. Kneeling down, I picked up a small letter enclosed with it. Of course, curiosity gets the better of me and I close the door with the basket in tow.
Setting it down on the coffee table I sigh heavily and plop onto the couch. Mustering up enough motivation to open the letter, I peel away and the creases, and reading it aloud to myself.
" 'To whomever this may concern,
Enclosed with this letter is an orb-like object that resmebles some sort of geode or something. I have no use for this, but maybe you might figure out what to do with it.' "
"A geode? What would I do with a geode?" Right. Like someone would be here to answer my question.
Sitting there for minutes on end, thinking of what to make of this whole situation, I eventually decided to see what this so called geode even looks like.
Putting the basket in my lap, I lift the cover.
