Mrs. Okinawa was talking to the class, but her words were just flying over Kyla's head.
The dark head was bent over her desk, making it look like she was listening and taking notes... But she wasn't.
Whenever possible, Kyla was sneaking glances at Ryou. The time when he had caught her, Ryou's yami, Bakura, had glared fiercely at her. But then the pharaoh, Yugi's yami, had poked him in the back with a pencil. Without the use of any of his powers, of course.
Ryou didn't seem to have noticed any of Kyla's longing glances. The slender brunette sighed, then realised that Mrs. Okinawa had just asked her something.
"Um..." Kyla said, trying to work out exactly what the question had been.
The answer is x equals 10, the voice of Kyla's yami, Nareen, whispered in her mind.
Relieved, Kyla repeated the answer, and Mrs. Okinawa moved away, satisfied.
Thanks, Kyla sent down her and Nareen's mental link.
Any time, Nareen replied with a slight trace of amusement. Then, more seriously, When are you going to talk to Ryou?
Does everyone know my business? Kyla demanded.
Probably, Nareen answered with a slight laugh. But you really should talk to him, Kyla, she added. I know that you two had an argument... But it's not the end of the world. The best of friends have arguments sometimes.
But what if he refuses to forgive me? Kyla wailed. Our relationship's been pretty shaky since I finally got Ryou to forgive me for being so cold to him. What if this argument was the last straw?
I'm sure that it wasn't, Nareen replied comfortingly. Anyway, don't think about it now. Mrs. Okinawa is beginning to realise that you really aren't paying attention!
Later, Kyla and Nia sat outside, eating their lunch. They didn't really need to talk, as they were so close that they didn't need words.
Unlike Yugi's and Ryou's yamis, Nia's and Kyla's yamis preferred to stay in their hikaris' bodies whenever possible, even though they could take on their own bodies, as they felt more comfortable. Kyla knew that that annoyed Bakura more, while Yami Yugi just seemed to accept it. But Nareen and Ina took on their own forms when they went out with the other yamis.
"So... Are you going to talk to Ryou?" Nia asked eventually.
Kyla scowled. "I guess you've been talking to Nareen," she muttered.
"She's worried about you," Nia replied. "So am I, for that matter."
Kyla looked down, feeling numb.
"You did something right," Nia told her friend. "Remember when you entered a duel with Bakura to save me when I got sent to the Shadow Realm?"
Kyla shrugged slightly, and returned to looking at the ground. When she looked up again, Nia was holding out her phone to her.
"Call him."
Kyla hesitated, then slowly obeyed.
Kyla made her way to the park, and saw Ryou sitting on the bench there.
Ryou looked up at Kyla, his eyes haunted. "Hey," he said flatly.
Kyla hesitated, then slowly sat down. "Ryou, I'm..." she began.
Ryou held up a hand. "I don't want to hear it," he told Kyla.
Kyla looked down. "But I am," she whispered.
Ryou sighed. "Kyla, tell me why you think I should forgive you," he said.
"Because... um, well... The same reason you forgave me last time?" Kyla suggested with a mild sweatdrop.
Ryou looked at Kyla thoughtfully a moment before saying, "You've changed a lot since then."
"That's because I've grown up," Kyla replied quickly. "Also, having my real father instead of foster parents all the time means that I don't have to hide anymore. You've come a long way, too, Ryou. We all have."
"I guess you're right," Ryou said softly. Suddenly, he grasped Kyla's chin, and pressed his lips against hers. Then, pulling back, he smiled gently at her.
"You're forgiven."
