It was her fault, truthfully. He'd done nothing wrong, despite what Hugo and her cousins say. She should have said something. Then maybe, just maybe, it would be her holding his hand right now. But she didn't say anything, and she's not holding his hand, she's sitting in a coffee shop, absently stirring her coffee, and watching the sunrise. She had loved him, but stupidly, she'd figured it out after she'd broken up with him. She was stupid to break up with him, as well. Just because Lily said. But Lily didn't mean it; Lily never meant a word she said.
The sun was lying gently on top of the buildings now. It was beautiful. A mix of red, yellow, orange, purple and blue – but mainly red – climbing over the sparkling silver beasts that had stolen the sky. They'd used to watch the sunrise together at Hogwarts. It had been peaceful, something they'd both enjoyed. Their time had been good, she knew that, but it didn't stop her from regretting it. She'd lost everything she'd worked for over six years in 20 minutes, and Lily had gained it 10 minutes after that.
She didn't hate Lily. How could she? Lily was her cousin. Sure, she hated the things Lily did but she couldn't hate Lily, ever. She left her chair by the window and, having finished her coffee, left the shop. As she walked down the street she couldn't help thinking. Usually, she tried not to think - no good rarely ever came from it – but she couldn't help. Her mind sprung to life, whizzing through her brain on a loop. Thought after thought after thought. Lily after Lily after Lily. Scorpius after Scorpius after Scorpius. It was a hopeless life. She was stuck in the past, no hope left. It was like a contract.
She sat down on the hard pew, next to Hugo who squeezed her hand tightly and gave her a reassuring smile. She watched Scorpius caught her eye, looking away as if nothing was there. Did being his best friend mean nothing anymore?
Lily made an effort to brush past her, a smirk evident on her face. She wanted to hate Lily. She watched as they smiled at each other. She watched as everything she'd ever dreamed of became her cousin's reality. She felt her heart break.
"You okay, Rosie?" Albus asked as they walked out of the church, not towards the reception but towards the nice little café in Soho.
"Yeah, I know you didn't want to come," Hugo added awkwardly.
"I will be," she smiled, slinging an arm round his shoulder and Hugo's. She was lying, at that moment, but she would get better. She'd get over Scorpius, eventually. She'd meet someone, hopefully. But she knew she'd be OK in the long run, "S'long as I've my boys."
A/N: Ok, so this is for xxx-angelin-xxx 's challenge 19 and maybe some more years later which I choose Rose Weasley and got Scorpius Malfoy and the lyrics
It must have been love, but it's over now
It must have been good, but I lost it somehow
It must have been love, but it's over now
From the moment we touched till the time had run out
It must have been love, but it's over now
It was all that I wanted, now I'm living without
Which is from the song It Must Have Been Love by Roxette.
