Prologue

"So, what seems to be the problem?" Doctor Robert Chase asked as he walked into one of the examination rooms in the clinic at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. The sight that met him however wasn't quite the one he had imagined. Because sitting on the examination table, dangling her legs, was a beautiful young woman with a huge grin on her face. The fact that she was pretty wasn't what had him pause for a moment, even though Chase had to admit that she was a sight for sore eyes. No, what had him stopping was the way she was greeting him. Most of the people he treated didn't have time for smiles like this, as they were all to concerned about what was wrong with them. Which often turned out to be nothing at all.

"Just a slight fever, you know. Nothing serious." She looked a bit embarrassed before adding "I have this friend who won't stop fussing over me, so I thought I might get a real doctor explain to him that he can stop worrying."

Hopeful deep brown eyes met his and Chase couldn't seem to tear his gaze away from her before the meaning of her words finally dawned on him. He. Even though she hadn't said so he assumed this friend to be her boyfriend. All the pretty ones seemed to be already taken he thought with a sigh.

"The best is probably just to rest for a while. I can prescribe you some painkillers but the fever will most likely disappear after a couple of days." Chase quickly wrote the prescription and gave it to the young blonde "If the fever hasn't gone down after three days I would like to see you again to make sure it's nothing serious. This friend of yours, where is he?

Chase found it interesting to see the woman turn a light shade of pink before answering "Probably out somewhere causing trouble." She suddenly looked panic-stricken "And we are in a hospital. God knows what he could do. I really should find him before…" The rest of her sentence was cut off as she without warning lost consciousness.
