Traffic stop.

DG was coasting easily along the well known dusty Kansas road, enjoying the warmth of the single sun floating in the noonday sky. She planned to talk to the judge, pay the ticket and go home to the O.Z. forever. Quick, simple; painless. She had just passed the Hill Top Caf when she heard the all too familiar siren from Officer Gulchs car.

Gritting her teeth, DG pulled over and took off her helmet. "Problem Officer?" She asked lightly, crossing her arms.

"DG?" Gulch took in the sight of the missing farm girl.

"In the flesh. Why are you pulling me over? I wasn t speeding."

"DG..."

"And I didn t run any stop signs. Or traffic lights." DG continued, ignoring him. "I came here specifically to pay this speeding ticket you gave me last time I was here. So it can't be for that, because I m heading to the courthouse right now, a week ahead of schedule."

"DG." Gulch tried again, but stopped seemingly trying to gather his wits.

" What? What possible reason do you have for pulling me over? You know what it is? I think you re so used to pulling me over that you don t even look for a reason you just like the chase. Give me one reason you could possibly have for pulling me over. "

Gulch took a great gulp of breath and pointed to her vehicle. "You re driving a broomstick."

DG looked down at her broom and then up at Gulch. "They don t have motorcycles in the O.Z." she answered feebly

"The Oh-zee?" Gulch repeated faintly.

"I had Cain check." DG pulled out a drivers manual for the state of Kansas. "He read it cover to cover and it doesn t say anything about not- What was it?" DG stuck her tongue out concentrating. Gulch rallied and opened his mouth to speak just as she remembered "Oh right 'It's not unlawful to own or operate a broomstick within the country of Kansas' - They call it a country and Father says not to bother explaining it because they don t really understand states- 'within the country of Kansas, upon quin pro quo therafter no mention of a law stating such vehicles are prohibited.' I m not sure what all the fancy jargons about cuz I'm not a cop. But it means you can't arrest me for flying a broomstick. " She smiled sweetly.

"DG slow down. Where s the O.Z. and who is Cain and what s this about your dad? Hank and Emily are alright? I mean you and your parents disappeared off the face of the earth almost three weeks ago."

"Hank and Emily aren t my parents." DG laughed. "They're fine though, they live in Milltown. I see them almost everyday. They ve really taken to Az."

"Az?" Gulch repeated. "Deege, you're throwing too much at me."

"Well none of it matters. After today, I m going home where I belong and I m never ever coming back here." DG replied soberly. "And don t bother pretending you ll miss me."

Gulch nodded. "Well I'd be lyin if I said you didn t make life interesting." he said with a short laugh. "I know it aint right, but I m gonna miss the way you tore down these old roads before you left us."

DG laughed. "I think you would have liked Cain. He s a cop where I m heading and has sworn to keep me in line."

"Poor guy." Gulch nodded and shook her hand. "Alright then DG. If you really don t belong here, I guess I better let you go."

DG smiled and shook her head. "I don't fit in here. I never did." She smiled and began placing her helmet back on her head.

With a small nod, Gulch headed back to his Car.

"Hey Elmer," DG grinned mischievously. "One more chase? For old times' sake?"

The officer laughed. "Now, I dont think thats such a good idea D- DG? Hey get back here!!"

DG pulled her helmet on and took off down the road as fast as her broom would fly.

Really it wasn t the same without a Siren on her tail. DG laughed, soaring down the well worn road one last time before disappearing into the sunset and to the other end of the rainbow.
