Hello there! Not giving too much away, but the reason Charlie didn't come running in when Bella screamed, was because he was, er, late night fishing…or something.

Chapter two- I sometimes wonder about my mental health…

I walked up the steps of the Cullen's house, Edward close beside me with his hand around mine. He seemed distant today, but I wrote it off as the fact that he hadn't been hunting in a while. He was probably getting thirsty.

He held the door for me and motioned for me to go first, giving me a dazzling smile.

I stepped into the house and he followed. Emmett looked up from the sofa and grinned.

"Hey, Bella!" He said in his booming voice.

"Hey, Emmett," I said, smiling. He winked.

Jasper was perched on the edge of the sofa, statuesque like. His eyes flickered to me, lingered on Edward, and then went back to staring at the football game on the plasma screen television.

"Hello Bella," he said. His tone was forced friendliness.

"Hi Jasper."

"Edward," Jasper nodded in greeting, giving Edward a huge smile.

Edward grinned back. Something seemed suspicious. I took Edward's hand and held it tight.

There was a long silence. I stood there awkwardly, feeling dismayed. Edward went over and stood near Jasper. I didn't follow.

"Where's Alice?" I asked, the silence no longer being bearable.

There was hesitation. I waited patiently.

And then Alice glided down the staircase, her pixie features framed with think curls, instead of her usual spikes.

She flitted past Edward and Jasper, giving them both painfully sad looks. Her eyes look like they glistened with tears.

She came over to me and wrapped her small arms around me, her head resting on my shoulder.

"Hey Alice," I said soothingly, "What's the matter?"

Alice whimpered and Emmett snorted.

"She's pissed at Jasper and Edward," he grinned.

I stroked Alice's hair.

"Why?" I asked her.

She looked up and her eyes were huge and reproachful.

"Ask them," she said, me one last hug, she glided away.

"Edward, what's going on?" I demanded, putting my hands on my hips.

Edward hesitated.

"Emmett, if you wouldn't mind…" he said gesturing to the door.

Emmett nodded, gave me a look of sympathy, and left.

Edward went and sat close to Jasper on the sofa. I looked at them both, and then I noticed the little bite mark on Jaspers bottom lip.

"Jasper," I gasped, "What happened to your lip?"

Jasper smiled and gave Edward a look of…adoration?

"Edward," he gushed, and that's when I realised their hands were clasped tightly around each others.

"W-what?" I stammered, but they ignored me, and leaned into each other to…

I woke up, screaming.

"Bella!" Edward gasped from beside me, "Bella love, are you alright?"

I could feel one of his cool hands around my waist, the other on my forehead. I was sitting up, my back rigid.

I gulped in air.

"I w-was j-just a dream," I stuttered.

"It's ok Bella. It was a dream. I'm here," Edward soothed, his cool hand smoothing down my hair.

I looked at him. He was still the same perfect angel I had seen before I'd drifted off. I sighed in relief.

"Ok…I'm ok. Everything's fine," I said slowly, lowering myself back down onto the pillow and nuzzling into Edward. His lips brushed my forehead.

"Everything's perfect Bella. Go back to sleep. I love you."

"I love you too." I reached up and kissed him quickly, then settled back onto the pillow.

Before I drifted off, I mumbled, "Edward?"

"Yes, love?"

"Are Alice and Jasper still together?"

There was a confused silence.

"Of course they are, love. Why wouldn't they be?"

"Never mind," I mumbled, and then I drifted off to sleep.
