Confident

Sometimes, all we need is just a smile. 1st time loop. MadoHomu

Homura continued looking down and walked, observing her feet and counting the number of steps she took inwardly. The point of doing all these was because she didn't want to look up, to look at the girl walking right infront of her.

It wasn't because she hated her or anything, but she herself was a burden. Homura had been weak since young and many people also talked behind her back, claiming she was weak and useless. That was why Homura was afraid that she would be a burden to the health officer, Madoka, since she would be in charge of bring her to the nurse's office between periods regularly and she would be missing out lesson quite often.

"I'm sorry, but may I know what's your name. I was looking at your hair while the teacher was introducing you. It's very silky by the way."

Homura gasped, looking up and stared at Madoka who had stopped and inclined her head at her. Her heart was starting to beat very fast and she swore she almost wanted to faint. Why was this girl complimenting her out of the sudden? She took in a breathe and exhale. "Akemi Homura."

"That's a cool name!" Madoka wondered aloud.

Homura bowed her head down. 'What is the point of having a cool name when the person is so weak and could do nothing at all?'

They started walking again in silence before Madoka started the conversation again. "You look tired and sad. Is something wrong?"

Homura immediately shook her head. "Nothing." She whispered.

She could feel Madoka's pink eyes staring at her even when she was looking down again. 'What if she finds me boring? What if she finds me weird? What if she finds me a hassle? What if she dislikes me?' Homura bit her lips and shut her eyes tightly. The trip to the nurse's office seemed like eternity and Homura couldn't wait to get away from Madoka as soon as possible.

"Let's be friends!"

Homura blinked as she glanced up, scrutinizing Madoka with a weird look. Madoka started syncing her steps with Homura as she gave a broad grin.

"F-Friends...?" Those words sounded like alien to Homura when she said it.

"Yes! I can tell that you're a really nice and beautiful person! Never let anyone tell you otherwise." Madoka gave a pat om Homura's back.

Homura stiffened, surprised with the sudden touch. Her throat tightened and her lips were starting to turn dry. She didn't exactly know what to reply. A Thank You? A smile? She decided to go with the latter as her lips slowly curled up and she broke into a small smile.

Madoka smiled back too, but her smile was much more brighter and cheerful. Homura wanted to be like her. She want to radiate this kind of warmth to everyone else like Madoka too. But it was impossible...

"I'll wait for you outside." Madoka pointed at the nurse office's door before looking back at Homura. "The nurse is very kind so you don't have to worry, I'll bring you back before break time and we can have our lunch together."

"I'll look fo-forward to it." Homura nodded her head enthusiastically before heading in.

And so, for the rest of the day, Homura knew her fate had changed once she met this pink bubbly girl name Madoka.
