Sweet Shop
Pure unadulterated fluff and fun for the Team that even your children can enjoy!
Same disclaimers as always. I don't own the characters, but this story is all mine.
Having served warrants the previous day and with no hot calls yet today, Sarge sent the Team out on patrol. It was a hot summer afternoon when anything could happen on the streets of the city. Every police officer in the city on duty was out on patrol in the hopes of forestalling trouble before it started.
Sam and Jules were patrolling together, taking their time through their sector. So far, so good. No immediate threats, not even kids aiming water pistols.
"Sam, stop!" yelled Jules, and Sam slammed on the brakes, breathing hard.
"What? Did you see something?" he questioned, ready to exit the vehicle and intervene in something.
"We're getting out. I have to show you." Jules hopped out of the SUV and headed back they way they'd just come.
Sam joined her wondering what was up. Suddenly she stopped and said, "Here. This is what I wanted you to see. We've got to go in and see if they have boxes with their name on it."
"Huh?" Sam was still puzzled until he noticed the name of the shop. "No way. This is for real?"
"Yeah, great, huh?"
"You bet! Let's get some for the team."
"That's the idea!"
The two officers entered the small shop and inhaled the lovely sweet scent of the contents of the clear glass cases lining one wall. A young woman welcomed them into the shop and offered to help.
"We just need a few minutes to look over the choices," explained Jules. Then she whispered to Sam, "Look, the boxes do have the name on them!"
"Perfect! Let's get a dozen," replied Sam.
"Half vanilla, half chocolate?" suggested Jules. "Or should some be pink?"
"Pink? Who'd want pink?"
"Don't you think that's a nice manly color for the Team?"
"No." Sam's answer was short and curt. "Chocolate and vanilla sound better. Look better, too."
"Okay." Jules wasn't going to argue as long as she got that box with that name on it.
Pleased with their purchase, they couldn't wait for time to head back to the Barn, but they still had a couple more hours on shift patrolling. The afternoon passed slowly and without incident.
The three black SUVs all arrived back at the garage about the same time. The team was very curious about the bag that Sam and Jules had with them. They were teased about its contents, but both refused to reveal anything. "You have to wait until we get back to the briefing room, and then you can all see what we found," explained Sam holding the bag up high out of reach. Jules ran interference against anyone who tried to grab it from Sam.
"Just wait until we ALL get to the briefing room! Then you can see what's in the bag."
The Team raced upstairs to the SRU and piled into the briefing room. Winnie was shaking her head at their behavior as a group of officers ran past her desk. As Sam walked by the dispatcher's desk with the bag, Jules grabbed Winnie and insisted that she had to join them. A puzzled Winnie followed Jules and Sam into the other room and was met by impatient Team members.
Dragging out the suspense, Sam slowly pulled the bag off the box and placed the box in the middle of the table. Once the team members read the name on the box, they hardly cared what was inside. Spike was jumping up yelling, "I get the box! I get the box!"
Finally Sam flipped open the box and revealed the contents: a dozen luscious cupcakes piled high with fluffy spirals of frosting, and Spike raised his arms and yelled, "Babycakes!"
There really truly is a bakery named Babycakes! It's in Virginia. A sign on the interstate designates it as a food place at one of the exits. I had to get off and see it for myself... If you want to know where, PM me and I'll share. It was closed when I stopped, so I didn't get a chance to go in. :-(
