I do not own the manga/anime InuYasha it belongs to Rumiko Takahashi.

Xx Once upon a Winter Night xX
She was limping. She was hurting, wounded, bleeding, tired, beaten, powerless and soaked- and even though, she still limped her way through the forest, with the heavy and forever fallen snow, in the middle of the night.
Kagome felt herself losing the inner battle, soon she would lose consciousness. She pushed herself forward, her light green kimono clung heavily to her curves, with the snow seeping underneath her clothing and soaking her to the bone. Her wet hair clung mainly to her wet back but some tresses were dancing gentle in the mild, but icy, wind around her.
Kagome let out a groan as her feet refused to support her any longer and she felt against a tree. She managed to keep herself standing with her back against the tree- it did not last long though, as she took a few rasped breathes an saw them turn into a fog in the cold air. With that she felt her energy leaving her and Kagome could feel her knees bending, as she slowly fell against the tree- scraping her back on the rough bark, as she fell into a sitting position, at the base of the tree.
Kagome just sat there, waiting. Waiting for Yuki onna to take her life away, she did not care. Right now at this very moment, she did not care.
Kagome felt her eyelids go heavy and she closed them happily, wanting to sleep- and for the pain to go away.
A cloak covered figure stepped through the snow, searching. The cloak was dark and big with a hood and you could not see the person who had it on. He spotted the young woman- sitting against the base of a tree, half dead. She looked like a snow angel with the heavy snow falling upon her, like a blanket, and her blue lips.
He began to fell worried…
The cloak covered figure made his way to the young woman, he bend down and gathered her fragile form in his arms, holding her close to his warm chest and beating heart.
Kagome's eyes fluttered open, from the gentle and warm contact.
"Who…?" was all she asked, just above a whisper.
The cloak covered man did not say anything; all he did was to walk away from the tree- deeper into the forest with Kagome in his arms.
"Arigatou…" Kagome mumbled and fell in into a dreamless sleep.
The cloak covered man let out an almost soundless sob and as he lowered his head, some of his black hair fell out to be revealed and to rest upon his shoulder. He looked at the sleeping woman in his arms and with the moonless night- only the stars could watch as tears made their way down his cheeks.
He bend down to kiss the sleeping Kagome on her forehead, but as his lips touched her Kagome began to stir.
"Hmm… InuYasha…" She said in a low mumble, still sleeping.
The man looked up, his hood falling down and InuYasha gave the stars a sad smile.
"I am sorry Kagome, for letting you down. I promise; I will never leave your side again. This is a promise as your protector and your lover… I promise."
And as the last tear escaped the corner of his eye, InuYasha made his way through the snow covered forest, never to forget the vow to his love ever again.
Just to be safe:
Yuki onna= snow woman. she is a kind of spirit in Japanese folklore.
Arigatou= Thank you.
